A Study On The Localization Of Modern Church Buildings In Xi’an

Architecture and civil engineering after the 1986 Symposium on the history of Chinese modern architecture,Chinese modern architecture has gradually attracted attention,and the church is a typical architectural type under the modern background,which has the characteristics of semi colonial and semi feudal society.Churches existed in Shaanxi during the Tang Dynasty,and Xi’an has always been the missionary center and preferred area in Shaanxi.Based on the field investigation,it is found that the existing modern churches in Xi’an have different degrees of localization compared with Western churches.Due to the loss of church materials in special historical periods,the research on Xi’an churches needs to be improved in terms of content and angle.Therefore,it is urgent to explore their localization characteristics.Firstly,starting with the background of the spread of Christianity into China,this paper studies the development process of modern church architecture in Xi’an and the church construction in various periods,as well as the situation of modern churches that have survived until now,obtains the social factors of the localization of modern Christian architecture,and grasps the process of the localization of church architecture under the influence of western culture.Secondly,according to the research,the well preserved church buildings in Xi’an area in modern times are extracted as the research samples.Through quantitative,comparative and other analysis methods,the localization characteristics of churches are summarized from three aspects: group layout,main buildings and auxiliary structures in the way of general classification of architecture.The research of the main building mainly starts from five aspects:Architectural orientation,plane shape,architectural modeling style,facade decorative components,materials and structures,and finally summarizes the general characteristics of the localization of church architecture.Then,representative typical cases are selected from churches with different architectural styles,including the Baroque tongyuanfang Catholic Church,the Romanesque dongxinxiang chapel and the local traditional Yinzhen Gospel Church.From the analysis of social factors of church localization to the study of group layout,main buildings and ancillary structures,we can grasp the localization process of Western churches after they were introduced into Xi’an to the greatest extent,Finally,the typical characteristics of the localization of modern church buildings in Xi’an are obtained.Finally,it classifies and summarizes the localization characteristics of modern church buildings in Xi’an,considers the causes of the localization of modern church buildings in Xi’an,and discusses its value.
