The new physical bookstores are not only civilizational pavilions of the nation and culture,but also carriers of popular cultural exchange,which are of great significance in supporting the development of improving overall reading levels and building a strong cultural nation.Under the current trend of reading for all,new physical bookstores have become the habitat of many young people’s reading experience,and the physical bookstore has transformed from a mere place for book sales to a multi-level cultural experience center.However,under the influence of consumerist thinking,the development of commodity economy is full of vigor,and at the same time inevitably causes consumers to excessively pursue the material world,thus leading to the weakening of the spiritual world.In this predicament,some of the new physical bookstores have incorporated a variety of business formats in their bookstore spaces in order to effectively attract readers,and have continued to enrich the space design of their bookstores,creating a good reading environment for readers.However,this has also made the spatial form of the new physical bookstores more complex,making the spatial design of bookstores more challenging.Therefore,under the impact of consumerism and e-reading,how to create a space with cultural quality,humanistic care and meeting readers’ needs based on the bookstore itself will become a problem that new physical bookstores need to face and solve.Therefore,this paper attempts to take new physical bookstores as the research object,based on the theoretical framework of consumerism,to explore the correlation between consumerism and the development of new physical bookstores through literature reading,questionnaire survey,case study and other relevant research methods,and to conclude the optimization strategy of new physical bookstore environment design.The paper is divided into six chapters.First,the author clarifies the purpose,significance,content and methodology of this paper by presenting the research questions of this paper.After that,the theories related to consumerism and new physical bookstores are elaborated,pointing out the characteristics of consumer behavior under consumerism,namely,the transformation of consumption logic,the symbolization of consumption and the individualization of consumption,which provide certain theoretical support for the optimization of new physical bookstores.On this basis,based on the analysis of excellent cases of new physical bookstores,the theoretical basis and reference for optimization strategies are provided for subsequent research.Then,based on the theoretical study,field research and questionnaire survey in the previous paper,consumer needs are analyzed and summarized to understand the new consumer needs for new physical bookstores and to provide direction for the optimization strategy and concept of new physical bookstore environment design in this paper.Finally,this paper combines the characteristics of consumerism and consumer needs from several dimensions of bookstore interior space,spatial layout,interior soft furnishings,detail design,and architectural appearance to propose optimization strategies for new physical bookstore interior space design and extend the thinking for future new physical bookstore development.
