The rapid economic development has facilitated the transformation of China from a production-based society to a consumption-based society.People’s consumption demands have shifted from the pursuit of material satisfaction to the pursuit of spiritual satisfaction,resulting in a consumer culture characterized by diversity,personalization and symbolism,and driving the flourishing of experience design in various industries.Under the background of consumer culture,people hope that physical bookstores can be upgraded from a single material consumption place to a comprehensive cultural experience space integrating collaborative consumption,sensual consumption and symbolic consumption.The traditional brick-and-mortar bookstores,however,have a single and backward cultural service function,which makes it difficult to meet people’s higher consumption needs.Coupled with the influence of factors such as e-reading and online bookstores,the current business situation of traditional brick-and-mortar bookstores is not optimistic,and they urgently need to be transformed and upgraded by combining the features of the era of consumer culture and experience economy.This article takes the experience-based physical bookstore in the context of consumer culture as the research object.Chapter 1 explains the research background,research purpose and research significance of the topic,defines the concepts related to the topic,and conducts an in-depth analysis in the light of the current situation of domestic and international research.Chapters 2 and 3 of the article sort out the concepts and characteristics of consumer culture and experience design,and analyze the survival status of physical bookstores and their feasibility of transforming into experience-based bookstores.Through field research and case studies,it analyzes the current characteristics and design status of experience-based physical bookstores in China from two perspectives,spatial design and emotional design.It also conducts a demand analysis in conjunction with the results of questionnaire research,and critically considers the phenomenon that some physical bookstores are obsessed with pursuing the Netflix effect to the neglect of the main status of reading in order to create an experience theme.Based on the previous study,Chapter 4 summarizes the design principles of subjectivity,diversity and experience,and proposes design methods from four perspectives:spatial experience,emotional experience,cultural experience and service experience.The first is to enrich spatial experience through the applicability of spatial organization,the rationality of dynamic planning,the diversity of spatial forms and the coordination of functional composition;secondly,to enrich emotional experience from three levels of instinct,behavior and reflection;then to enrich cultural experience through cultural inheritance,holding cultural activities and creating cultural landmarks;finally,to improve service experience through online and offline integration.This is used as the theoretical basis for the design practice of Chapter 5,and also provides practical support for the research of the topic.It is hoped that it will provide some ideas for reference in the design of experiential physical bookstores.
