Chinese Buddhist temple garden is a bridge connecting religious holy land and secular society, and has gradually formed a unique temple garden landscape in the long history of development. The temple garden is a combination of Buddhist thought and natural landscape, which together create a pure and solemn and winding atmosphere. At present, the research of temple gardens is mainly carried out from two dimensions: synchronic and diachronic: Synchronic perspective to study its material attributes and cultural attributes;Diachronic Angle studies the development and change of temple gardens. The restorative effect of temple gardens has been mapped from many scholars’ studies on their religious function attributes, but most of them remain in the analysis and discussion of temple religious field attributes and single landscape elements, and lack of restorative research on temple audio-visual landscape elements. In the process of urbanization, the continuous reduction of natural environment due to urban density is an important factor of various mental and chronic diseases. Therefore,as one of the important places for urban residents to get close to nature,it is of practical significance to study the restorative effect of the elements of audio-visual landscape inside The Chinese Buddhist temple to improve the physical and mental health of urban residents. In order to explore the influence of temple environmental landscape elements on the restorative effect, this study took Suzhou Chinese Buddhist temples as the research object, and proposes the content and specific methods of the study on Chinese Buddhist temple landscape based on the theories of audio-visual landscape perception and attention recovery.Through the field investigation and observation and measurement of the environment of Chinese Buddhist temples in Suzhou, the present situation and characteristics of the landscape environment of Chinese Buddhist temples are summarized, and the factors of the temple audio-visual landscape are extracted. The restoration of five sound types and eight temple samples was evaluated experimentally. The PRS sensory recovery scale analyzed the restoration effect of temple audio-visual landscape from the subjective perception perspective, and the eye movement technology explored the behavior rules of individuals to temple visual environment under different sound perception from the objective perspective. On this basis, the influence law of temple landscape elements on the restorative effect under the audio-visual interaction is deeply explored. The experimental results show that:(1)Subjective perception measurement: Different sound types will affect the participants’ perception of attention restoration to the temple visual environment. There are significant differences between artificial negative voices and other types of voices in five dimensions: being away, fascination, consistency, range and compatibility. When the temple acoustic environment is highly matched with the visual environment, its restorative effect will be enhanced;when the acoustic environment and the visual environment are extremely mismatched, people’s field awareness will be enhanced, and they believe that the noisy urban sound is disrespectful to the sacred environment of the temple.Subjectively, boredom will affect the restorative effect of landscape.(2)Objective eye movement index: Different types of sounds can lead to changes in visual attention.Compared with the eye-tracking results in the silent state, natural sounds will attract people’s attention to natural landscape elements in the visual environment;artificial negative sounds are more likely to attract participants’ attention to artificial landscape elements with functions of traffic, resident and safe refuge.Such as roads, squares, buildings, etc.;while the religious structures and buildings in the artificial landscape under the sound of religious type attracted the most attention, indicating that people in the temple environment tend to pay more attention to the landscape elements in line with the attributes of the temple site.(3)Correlation: There is a significant correlation between PRS subjective perception score and objective indicators when subjects watched eye movement videos with different audio-visual combinations. The study found that under the influence of different sounds, people paid different attention to the visual landscape elements of temples.Under natural sound, plants and water bodies have a positive restorative effect;under artificial positive sound, religious landscape elements such as buildings and structures also have a positive restorative effect;and under artificial negative sound, the restorative effect of natural landscape elements will be weakened due to the interference of noise. Finally, based on the results of this experiment and relevant theoretical basis, the optimization framework for the restoration of audio-visual landscape of Chinese Buddhist temples was established from three aspects of optimization principle, optimization strategy and optimization mode.In terms of optimization principles, the restorative behavior support principle, sheltered principle, accessibility principle and compound principle are proposed based on the experimental evaluation results; In terms of optimization strategies, the design strategies of "protection and inheritance","collection and refinement" and "balance between increase and decrease" were proposed respectively for visual landscape, auditory landscape and audio-visual coupling; In terms of optimization mode, the optimization mode of spatial whole and constituent elements is further proposed based on optimization strategy. In order to improve the restoration quality of audio-visual landscape of Chinese Buddhist temples, and provide scientific guidance for the improvement and optimization of temple environment.
