Buddhism was introduced into China in1st century BC, and then closely intertwined with Chinese culture, at the same time, Buddhism penetrated with Confucianism and Taoism into all field of Chinese society, in Chinese history, there is no enthetic religion has so much deep influence except Buddhism. In the modern world, Buddhism also play an important role in political, cultural, economic and other aspects of society in China. In recent years, the acceleration of urbanization and tourism development promote the boost of Buddhist culture, at the same time, the number of Buddhist temple rebuild projects have increased, because more funded comes from local government and private entrepreneurs, so the development of Buddhist temple has reach new peak after the Northern and Southern Dynasties in the history. But in the development of modern Buddhist temple, most of modern Buddhist temples still use modern material to imitate the traditional temple. In the past two thousand years, the style of Buddhist temple doesn’t have essential change, the fact makes people lose the sensitiveness of traditional style under the pressure of industrial culture, and people are accustomed to the brief and fashion of modern style, and it is inappropriate to over plagiarism under the aesthetics standard of modern people. At the same time, Buddhist monastery regard as an important tourist scenic spots, the traditional arrangement and landscape can not satisfied require of function of modern tourist scenic spots, landscape designers will figure out all this problem in the process of practice in the future.This thesis concentration on the study of modern Buddhist monastery, focus on the require of building the area of religion, and use the modern landscape design theory by a reasonable approach and new technology to study the regeneration design of the Buddhist monastery by keeping the conception of religious of the Buddhist ritual and artistic. In the essay, I will divide the essay into four chapters and state the concept progressively.1st chapter is an introduction, focusing on research background, the content and significance are discussed; In chapter2, I focus on the study of the source of history, in order of timeline, to state the generation of when Buddhist start in China, the spread of Buddhism and the generation of Buddhist monastery, at the same time, I will particularly discuss the different style of development of Buddhist monastery in every historical stage in China. In chapter3, the chapter contribute on the study of traditional technique of landscape design, I integrate and comb the difference elements of creating landscape of Buddhist monastery of previous people, at the same time, add new contents by field trip and do a specific research about each building on the axle wire of Buddhist monastery and discuss about the principal of aesthetic and design language and the approach of detail design in traditional Buddhist monastery design. In chapter4, I analyse the existing landscape design of Buddhist monastery in China and HongKong and Taiwan. And take some modern Zen landscape design as a example to discuss how to use modern landscape design theory and modern construction technique to annotation the area of Buddhist monastery. I also conclude the successful experience of design modern Buddhist monastery and the shortage. Chapter5is a summary and prospective chapter, I state my view of present problem of building landscape of Buddhist monastery by studying the traditional and modernism landscape, and also discuss about the trend of creation and development of future Buddhist monastery landscape design.
