The Book of Songs is the source of Chinese literature and culture, and its core of the Confucian classics studies has far-reaching influence on all aspects of Chinese culture. At present, most of the researches on the Book of Songs in the discipline of landscape architecture focus on the early garden forms and the aesthetic thoughts of the ancestors, and there are few achievements on the influence of the Book of Songs on the later Chinese gardens. The research focuses on the three imperial gardens in the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty: the Garden of Clear Ripple,Yuanmingyuan Imperial Garden and the Mountain Resort. The research adopts the method of combining literature research and case analysis.Starting from the allusions of Confucian classics studies widely quoted in garden titles, this research introduces literary concepts such as "citing allusion" and "poetry teaching" to reveal the political connotation of poetry teaching in Imperial gardens of the Qing Dynasty. The concept of "poetry teaching" in this research not only includes the political education function of "poetry",but also includes the connotation of the Confucian doctrine expounded by the way of "literature embodies the Doctrine".The main research contents are as follows:First, based on the prominent "Confucian classics studies" attribute of "the Book of Songs" and the characteristics of imperial garden management in the Qing Dynasty, this research analyzes the strong connection between "the Book of Songs" and the political function of imperial gardens in the Qing Dynasty, which is the basis of the thesis. The basic work of the research is to sort out the "the Book of Songs" in the titles and tablets of three royal gardens in Qianlong period, the Garden of Clear Ripple,Yuanmingyuan Imperial Garden and the Mountain Resort.Second,it analyzes the typical allusions to the Book of Songs in the three garden titles, and illustrates the complex integration relationship between the allusions to the Book of Songs and garden elements in the Imperial gardens of the Qing Dynasty through the poetic connotations of landscape, plants, animals, architecture and other landscape elements.Third,it summarizes the connotation of poetry conveyed by the emperor through allusions to the Book of Songs, and expounds the innovative ways of using allusions to the Book of Songs in the imperial gardens of the Qing Dynasty with the analysis of allusions to the typical summer resort "Wanshu Garden".The main conclusions of this research are as follows:1.Allusions to the Book of Songs are prominent in imperial garden titles during the Qianlong period. Most of the examples are from the Ya and the Song, which mainly convey the thoughts of emperors and have prominent characteristics of political education, which is determined by the " Confucian classics studies" attribute of the Book of Songs.2.Allusions to the Imperial garden "the Book of Songs" in the Qianlong period are illustrated by garden names, landscape names, horizontal tablets, couplets, and garden poems and articles.Allusions focus on the connotation of "poetry teaching",such as "praying for longevity","praising morality and praising politics","diligent administration and selfencouragement",and reflect the sentiments of the Emperor Qianlong.3.The allusions in the Imperial Garden "the Book of Songs" in the Qianlong period focus on the meaning, which is not confined to the space and form of garden landscape, but also different from the image relationship between Tang poetry and Song poetry and garden poetry and painting. It integrates imperial poems, garden furnishings, landscape elements, etc.,and combines ritualistic activities to creatively integrate allusions in the Book of Songs into the emperor’s political enlightenment. This research analyzes allusions to the Book of Songs in imperial gardens during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, reveals the idea of "poetry teaching" conveyed by the emperor, and further enriches the interpretation of the cultural connotation of traditional gardens. At the same time,it expands the dimension of the study of the Book of Songs in landscape architecture discipline, and also provides theoretical basis for the innovative application of the Book of Songs in contemporary landscape architecture.
