With the development of technology,especially the advancement of digital technology,rapid prototyping and related material science technologies continue to improve,providing new ideas and methods for teaching the fundamentals of product design.At the same time,the successive emergence of new trends such as Internet thinking,Industry 4.0,and consumer upgrading has created new expectations for the competency requirements of graduates of design-related majors in colleges and universities.Product design basic teaching should also keep pace with the times and integrate the training of students’ practical innovation ability on top of the theoretical basis of the intersection of new liberal arts disciplines to achieve upgrading and change.This project analyzes the current situation of product design foundation teaching in China and summarizes the problems that exist according to the training objectives of teaching,including outdated teaching and textbook content,one-way output-based teaching mode,emphasis on the foundation of technique rather than the foundation of thinking,and fragmentation with subsequent courses.In the light of specific cases of foreign product design basic teaching,we summarize the characteristics that can be learned from them.The significance of applying digital tools to basic product design teaching is demonstrated in terms of the requirements of the times,policy guidelines,and the actual needs of teaching,and the necessity and feasibility of applying digital tools to basic product design teaching is demonstrated with relevant cases.Finally,based on the theoretical conclusions derived in the previous section,and taking into account the specific characteristics of Nanjing Art Institute as an art college,we construct a basic course subject design that introduces digital tools by promoting specific topics.This project proposes a new concept and idea for updating and reforming the basic product design education curriculum,helping students to improve their learning efficiency and deepen their understanding of the product design discipline in practice;to equip students with the ability to design and make prototypes on their own through the use of 3D printing equipment,and to apply theoretical knowledge to concrete practice;to make the content of product design education updated and iterated in accordance with new scientific and technological and contemporary requirements,as well as the advocacy of the education sector.The content of product design education is constantly updated and iterated,always at the forefront of the times.As the relevant equipment has been or is being widely deployed in the product design majors of universities,this topic can be widely promoted and applied in teaching practice.
