China’s economy is currently transitioning from a phase of rapid expansion to one of highquality development, which has emerged as the country’s primary development strategy in this period. The construction sector,a foundation of China’s national economy, makes a sizable contribution to the GDP.Despite the labor-intensive nature of the building business, numerous issues still need to be resolved, including shoddy development and glaring regional inequalities.Based on this, the paper investigates the comprehensive evaluation of the green competitiveness of the construction industry, its spatial and temporal evolution characteristics, and the influencing factors using a combination of subjective and objective assignment methods, exploratory spatial data analysis, and the GTWR model.(1)The green competitiveness of China’s provincial construction industry is expected to increase between 2004 and 2020,however green development in the sector is unequal between regions.Jiangsu,Zhejiang, and Guangdong are the top three provinces in terms of the average value of green competitiveness in the construction industry, with 0.4131,0.3319,and 0.3435respectively;Guizhou,Qinghai,and Ningxia are the last three provinces, with 0.1733,0.1767,and 0.1751 respectively. In terms of distribution,it exhibits a “high in the east and low in the west” trend. The eastern construction industry’s green competitiveness has always been at the top, with an average value of 0.2864;the national construction industry’s green competitiveness has an average value of 0.2403;the green competitiveness of the central construction industry is slightly lower than the national average, with an average value of 0.2339;and the western region is always at the lowest level, with an average value of 0.1987.(2)The dispersion of the level of green competitiveness of China’s provincial construction industry changes from small to large from 2004 to 2020,with the size of the mean value showing East > Central > West, which is consistent with the spatial distribution results. The green competitiveness of the national construction industry has gradually increased over time, and the overall difference has also increased year by year. The green development of the construction industry in the eastern region is improving, while the spatial differences in the green competitiveness of the construction industry in the central and western regions are polarized. The Moran index of green competitiveness of the national construction industry is greater than 0,showing a significant positive correlation in space;most provinces are distributed in the highhigh concentration area in the first quadrant and the low-low concentration area in the third quadrant of the local Moran scatter plot, with most of the eastern coastal provinces in the first quadrant;intra-regional differences are greater than inter-regional differences, and the three major intra-regional differences in the study period are The three major intra-regional differences in the study period are East > Central > West.(3)The effects of the degree of construction industry development, population size, ownership structure, resource endowment, energy efficiency and the level of environmental regulation on the green competitiveness of the construction industry in different periods differ significantly, with ownership structure and the level of environmental regulation exerting a suppressive effect on the green competitiveness of the construction industry in most regions, population size and resource endowment improving the green competitiveness of the construction industry in most regions, and the degree of construction industry development has a suppressive effect on the competitiveness of the western region, and the spatial spread to the east shows a positive promotion effect on the northeastern region.
