Man-made land use activities have an important impact on urban socio-economic development and the construction of human habitats.Since the reform and development,the urbanization of China has been rapidly developed,and in the process of promoting social and economic development,problems such as the rough use of urban land and harm to the ecological environment have emerged,with large amounts of carbon emissions being particularly prominent.At the same time,the low efficiency,high consumption,high emission,and high pollution characteristics of urban land use are contrary to the green and low-carbon sustainable development path.Cities in the central region,which have an important strategic position in China,are supported by traditional heavy and chemical industries,and the phenomenon of unreasonable industrial structure,extensive land use,and ecological and environmental damage are further aggravated.It is the trend to promote the coordinated development of economic construction,land use,and environmental protection in cities in central China,reduce carbon emissions and promote the green use of urban land.It is of important practical significance to study urban land green use efficiency in a low-carbon context for efficient and rational use of urban land in cities in central China,energy saving and emission reduction,improvement of the ecological environment,and support for the rise of the central strategy.Based on combing the literature at home and abroad,this article first,the connotations of carbon emissions,urban land,and urban land green use efficiency are defined and the theoretical basis is expounded.Secondly,the total amount of carbon dioxide emissions in the municipal districts of cities in central China is simulated through night lighting data,and constructing an input-output index system around urban land green use efficiency.Then,the undesired Super-SBM model,GML index,and input-output relaxation rate are used to measure the urban land green use efficiency of80 cities in central China from 2006 to 2019,and the temporal and spatial comparison and exponential decomposition are carried out,and the causes and improvement directions of urban land green use efficiency changes are revealed from the internal factor level.Finally,the panel Tobit model is used to quantitatively analyze the influencing factors of urban land green use efficiency,and the robustness of the results is tested by removing possible extreme values and substituting explanatory variables.The main conclusions of this paper are as follows:(1)From 2006 to 2019,the overall level of land green use efficiency in cities in central China is low,showing a fluctuating upward trend.The ranking of the average value of efficiency of each province is Shanxi Province>Hubei Province>Hunan Province>Jiangxi Province>Anhui Province>Henan Province.The average efficiency of provincial capitals continues to rise.Resource-based cities are like the overall level of the central region,and the efficiency changes of other cities show an’N’type.In terms of spatial distribution,it evolves from scattering to agglomeration,and high-efficiency values cluster in the northern and central parts of the central region,and the agglomeration effect of urban agglomeration is significant.(2)The GML index shows that the growth rate of land green use efficiency of each type of city is ranked as provincial capital cities>resource-based cities>other cities.The efficiency change index(EC)and technological progress index(TC)together drive the growth of land green use efficiency.Cities in central China have higher redundancy rates for land inputs,combined industrial pollution emission index,and total CO2emissions,and the insufficient rate of per capita green area in expected output is higher.(3)The regression results of the influencing factors show that the level of economic development,land urbanization,industrial structure upgrading,transportation facilities,and openness to the outside world have positive effects on land green use efficiency in cities in central China.In contrast,increased population density,environmental regulations,and government intervention negatively affect urban land green use efficiency.The impact of technological innovation is not obvious.There are differences in the direction and significance level of influence factors for different types of cities,and the results are robust.Therefore,the enhancement of land green use efficiency in cities in central China should pay attention to reducing pollution emissions,speeding up green and low-carbon development,taking a green and low-carbon sustainable development path,and avoiding environmental pollution and ecological damage;strengthen technological innovation,optimize resource allocation,focus on green technology innovation,and strengthen factor flow and rational allocation;play the role of urban agglomeration,pay attention to the development of local conditions,respect differences,and make policies according to the city.
