At present, with the warming climate and the overall situation of resources and environment becoming increasingly severe, what measures should be taken to promote carbon emission reduction has become an important issue globally. In response to global warming, the Chinese government has always insisted on fulfilling its carbon emission reduction commitments and implementing a series of targeted carbon emission policies and programs. And in the process of implementing carbon dioxide emission reduction,it will inevitably have some impact on China’s manufacturing industry.Based on the relevant data of 30 Chinese provinces and cities(except Hong Kong,Macao,Taiwan and Tibet)from 2007 to 2020,this thesis employs the entropy value method to portray the intensity of carbon emission policies and the competitiveness of regional manufacturing industries, and establishes a panel data regression analysis model based on two models of direct and indirect impacts to empirically analyze the impact of China’s carbon emission policies on the competitiveness of manufacturing industries, and obtains the following results:First,at the national level, the intensity of emission reduction is getting stronger. At present, the vast majority of provinces and cities in China show signs of enhanced carbon emission reduction, and the number of regions where the policy intensity is at a high level is gradually increasing. At the same time, there are significant regional differences in carbon emission policy intensity among provinces in China, and the regions with the largest growth are dominated by the Bohai Sea Rim region and the northern region.Secondly, from the direct impact model,it can be learned that the intensity of the regulated carbon emission policy has a significant inhibitory effect on the competitiveness of the manufacturing industry, while the market-based carbon emission trading policy has a significant driving effect on the competitiveness of the manufacturing industry. From the analysis of the indirect effect model,it can be concluded that the carbon emission policy intensity has a positive effect on the competitiveness of manufacturing industry by affecting physical capital input, however,it does not promote the competitiveness of enterprises when it is carried out by stimulating technological innovation, but when technological innovation reaches a certain threshold, the regulatory-type policy will lead to a significant improvement of the competitiveness of manufacturing industry. Finally, among regions, the direct effect effect of carbon emission policy intensity on manufacturing competitiveness is largely consistent with the trend of the effect on the whole.Among the regions, the negative effect on the eastern region is the most pronounced. The market-oriented policies have played a positive role in promoting the development of manufacturing industries in the backward regions of central and western China. The correlated factors interacting in the indirect impact effect show different magnitude and direction of their effects in each region. |
