With the increase of greenhouse gas emissions, the environmental quality problems caused by global warming are becoming more and more serious. As a big carbon emitter,it is urgent for China to reduce carbon emissions.China has been paying close attention to the impact of environmental problems on the country and society, and actively promoting carbon emission reduction work.Relevant work has achieved certain results. However, due to the large amount of carbon emissions in China,in order to achieve the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutrality,it is still necessary to further strengthen carbon emission reduction.Industrial carbon emissions are the main source of total carbon emissions. To achieve carbon emission reduction,we need to pay attention to industrial carbon emissions.Because digital economy has the characteristics of platform economy and sharing economy, digital economy can promote technology flow, optimize the allocation of production factors, promote the upgrading of industrial structure, and then reduce industrial carbon emissions. Therefore, using the digital economy as a powerful weapon to reduce industrial carbon emissions has become an issue that needs to be considered. On the basis of combing the existing research results, this paper summarizes the relevant theories, enriches the theoretical system in the field of digital economy and industrial carbon emissions, and explains the necessity of digital economy to empower industrial carbon emission reduction from three aspects of innovation,low-carbon development and sustainable development.Secondly,in order to accurately measure the digital economy index at the provincial level, the entropy method is used to measure the digital economy index from three aspects : information development,Internet development and information transaction development. The fixed effect model is used to test the effect of digital economy on industrial carbon emissions, and the mediating effect model is used to test the mechanism of digital economy affecting industrial carbon emissions from two aspects of technological innovation and industrial structure upgrading. In addition, the heterogeneity of the effect of digital economy on industrial carbon emissions is analyzed from different perspectives. Finally, according to the conclusion of this paper, combined with the different development situation of each region, put forward targeted and feasible countermeasures and suggestions.Through empirical tests, the main conclusions of this paper are as follows : First, the digital economy can effectively reduce industrial carbon emissions. After replacing the robustness test of the explained variables, the results are still valid.Secondly, technological innovation and industrial structure upgrading are the two intermediary paths of digital economy affecting industrial carbon emissions.Technological innovation and industrial structure upgrading both positively transmit the reduction effect of digital economy on industrial carbon emissions. Finally,in the regions with high level of digital economy, high level of economic development,large-scale cities and low carbon emission levels, the digital dividend effect of digital economy on industrial carbon emission reduction is stronger, and the reduction effect of digital economy on industrial carbon emission in the eastern, central and western regions is enhanced in turn. Therefore,in the context of global warming,China,as a major carbon emitter, should strengthen the development of digital economy and deepen the dividend effect of digital economy on industrial carbon emission reduction with the help of technological innovation and industrial structure upgrading. In addition,we should coordinate the synergistic carbon reduction effect of environmental protection policies and the digital economy, and formulate China ’s digital economy development strategy with regional differences to give full play to the industrial carbon emission reduction role of the digital economy.
