Work Strength And Well-being

In recent years,China’s economic construction has made brilliant achievements,so what is the corresponding state of people’s happiness? In addition to the influence of factors such as income and housing investigated by existing researches,the work strength of workers is also a reason of happiness,which cannot be ignored.This study aims to explore whether work strength can affect the happiness of workers,whether there are differences in the impact of work strength on happiness among different groups of workers,and whether the impact of work strength on subjective well-being is regulated by other factors.This research first reviews a number of theories that analyze how work strength affects workers’ subjective well-being,and focuses on labor process theory,puts forward corresponding hypotheses,and uses OLS multiple linear regression models to test them.The results show that the impact of workers’ working hours on happiness is different between employees and non-employees.The relationship between employees’ working hours and happiness presents an "inverted U-shaped" curve,and there is no obvious correlation between working hours and happiness for non-employees.There is a negative correlation between the employee’s self-assessed physical labor strength and happiness,while the self-evaluated mental labor strength has no significant correlation with happiness.The impact of work strength on subjective well-being will not change due to the improvement of individual wages and work autonomy,but for workers with a strong self-achievement orientation,the negative effect of increased work strength on subjective well-being will be weakened.This shows that compared with the labor supply theory of neoclassical economics,the labor process theory is more explanatory for the analysis of laborers’ happiness,and Burawoy’s exposition on ideological control in the labor process is very potent.
