At present,China has become the country with the largest number of elderly people in the world and one of the countries with the fastest population aging.Various problems caused by the elderly population have become the focus of social attention, especially health issues. As the old aged become older, their body functions continue to decline, and cancer has become a disease with a very high incidence in the elderly people. In addition to the high cost of cancer treatment,long-term care of cancer patients is required. This burden inevitably falls to family members, especially spouses. The mental health of the spouse caregiver not only affects the care of the elderly with cancer, but also affects their own daily lives. With the increase in the number of elderly people with cancer, the group size of spouse caregivers of elderly people with cancer is gradually expanding. How to help them relieve their psychological pressure has become one of the social problems that need to be resolved as soon as possible.Social work has been widely used as a scientific method of relieving psychological stress, and domestic and foreign scholars' researches on relieving psychological stress of caregivers of elderly people with cancer have mostly focused on the fields of medicine and psychology. In the field of elderly social work research, there is little attention to the psychological stress of spouse caregivers of elderly people with cancer.Based on this, combined with internship experience, this article takes the spouse A of a old people with cancer in Nanjing B street as the research object, analyzes her current psychological stress and needs, and tries to use social work professional methods to intervene to relieve her psychological stress so that their ability to adjust psychological pressure can be strengthened and a good social support system can be established. The previous surveys using research methods such as interviews and scales found that the psychological pressures faced by spouse caregiver in the process of caring for patients mainly include three aspects:psychological pressure caused by themselves, psychological pressure caused by tension with patients, and psychological stress caused by the lack of social support. This study combines the actual situation of the spouse caregiver and uses the psychosocial therapy model to intervene. In the practice process, this study adheres to the principles of individualization, acceptance, and restrained emotional response and uses direct treatment techniques and indirect treatment techniques.Focused on the spouse caregiver 's mental stress, the countermeasures at different levels such as micro, meso, and macro are proposed to help them get out of the current predicament and help them increase social support to achieve the purpose of alleviating psychological stress. The research results show that the psychological pressure of the spouse caregiver has been relieved to a certain extent. The phenomena like "often upset","feeling unable to perform normal social activities",and the feeling of "isolation and helplessness" has also eased. The spouse caregivers will seek outside help when they are in trouble.Besides, the phenomenon of "unable to handle my own bad emotions" has also improved. Therefore, the intervention using psychosocial treatment model is effective, and it provides practical experience for the research on the psychological stress relief of the spouse caregivers of the elderly with cancer. At the same time, this study also proposes that the construction of social work professionals should be strengthened, and the public is called upon to have a more comprehensive and objective understanding of the group of spouse caregivers of the old people with cancer, which can increase the social attention of this group and bring better social and emotional or material support to this group to a certain extent.
