Research On Female Images In The Paper's Domestic Violence Reports

With the implementation of the "China Anti-Domestic Violence Law",the issue of domestic violence has been paid more and more attention by the news media.Although gender awareness has been popularized in recent years,there are still some subtle gender discrimination issues in the media's construction of images of women involved in domestic violence.The Paper,as one of the leaders of mainstream online media,has a certain representative in its coverage of domestic violence,and can be used as an important window to evaluate whether the media's construction of women is gender-conscious.Relying on gender theory and taking domestic violence reports involving women as the research object,this article uses literature research methods,content analysis methods,and text analysis methods to explore what kind of female image and the intensity of gender awareness reflected in the construction method of The Paper.First of all,through the content analysis of the reports on domestic violence-related women published by The Paper from March 2016 to December 2020,it is found that the number of reports has steadily increased,the genre of the reports is comprehensive but not balanced,the forms of reporting are diverse,the topics of the reports are tendentious and the sources of reporting are more fixed.It reflects the continuous growth of The Paper's attention to women involved in domestic violence,but it is still necessary to improve the balance of reporting genres,reporting forms and information sources,and increase reporting efforts.In the research on female images,it can be concluded that the main elements of female images are "young and middle-aged women in East China who are others' wives or girlfriends" with ambiguous social identities,and the main image types are the helpless victims,the awakened and resisted victims,the desperate counter-offenders,the kind and righteous helpers and the deviant abusers.From this,it can be analyzed that The Paper needs to pay attention to the social identity of women,and pay more attention to underage and elderly women in economically underdeveloped areas.From the perspective of social gender theory and anti-domestic violence propaganda,it is found that these reports generally adhere to the principle of objective and truthful reporting,create a variety of character types,and discuss the protection of women's rights and interests.However,there are also problems such as shaping the attacked women as murderers and simply constructing the female perpetrators.These problems reflect that The Paper still lacks gender awareness in the way The Paper constructs images of women involved in domestic violence.The main manifestations are: the construction of women's images has not broken traditional gender stereotypes,women are still regarded as "others" in violence narratives,women's subjectivity cannot be fully displayed.To this end,this paper puts forward suggestions on how to enhance gender awareness in media reports,hoping that The Paper can balance the types of female images in reports,reduce body narratives,and deepen the discussion of social and cultural roots in comments.By researching the images of women in domestic violence reports,it can help the media to better pay attention to and reflect on the construction of women's images,so as to report women in a more gender-conscious manner.From the perspective of social gender,exploring the images of women involved in domestic violence can open up new research perspectives for the current research on women's media images,and also enrich new research content for the field of domestic violence reporting.
