In recent years, the quickly-growing urban newspaper in China has impressed everyone by far. The fast development of this type of urban media is considered one of the major outcomes of the trend of urbanization in China. Currently, this type of newspaper is more and more popular within ordinary people in China. However, the urban newspaper has also aroused strong concern and criticizes as it is sometimes full of information of violence. This dissertation has used two newspapers "Wenzhou Evening News" and "Wenzhou City News" as case studies to analyze how serious the situation of media violence in current Chinese urban newspaper is. Wenzhou is a typical middle-size city in south-east China. "Wenzhou Evening News" and "Wenzhou City News" are two of the major media organizations in Wenzhou. This case study has followed these two newspapers for two months to analyze all the contents involved with media violence and the way of expressing it. Through this research, I discovered that information of media violence has been widely spread into nearly each column of these two newspapers. E.g. domestic news, international news, cultural column, the title, the detailed message in articles, and the photo. This research has used communication theory as the main methodology to analyze how the media violence has influenced the Chinese readers' cognition, emotion, and action. It is discovered that the media violence could be considered as a special reason for the violence happening in our life. Furthermore, its negative influence also specially impacted teenagers' value and action. In conclusion, it becomes an urgent task for us to give related strategy in response to media violence in Chinese urban newspaper. This task also requires a kind of public consciousness against media violence. Hence this task is not only for all the professionals working for the media industry, it is also for the general public itself. In the near future, Chinese government is expected to develop related policy for this situation to help the society to establish the "firewall" against the media violence.
