The Study Of Roast Programs From The Perspective Of Carnival Theory

With the rapid development of the Internet,roast has played a significant role to communicate among the young in the mass communication field.Roast originated in the Japanese cross talk “Manzai”,and got popularity in the ACG culture.Now it is extended to denote "Cut the ground".With its banter manner,rich connotation and sharp expression,it has been widely concerned and used.The Internet's Cross temporal and spatial characteristics give a platform for roast.The humorous roast language subverts the order of speech in real life.People break the restrictions of class and complete the dialogue with an attitude of equality and freedom while roast is becoming a grand carnival.As an influential critical program,Roast presents the complete process of roasting and being roasted,providing a good scope for the research on the Roast Carnival.In the perspective of Bakhtin's Carnival Theory,this thesis makes a detailed analysis of the roasters and roastees during their interaction in Roast by combining content analysis and text analysis,making comments on three core questions,“what kind of Roast Carnival has been present in the program”,“how to engage in Carnival for audience”,“what kind of social psychology is behind the Roast Carnival”.The study found that there was a certain difference between the content presented in the program and that of the audience interaction.The audience showed more concern about the privacy of the guests,and reacted more remarkably to the vulgar content.This is closely related to the primary human peep desire.It is also a manifestation of people's active entertainment release under social pressure.The roasters use pragmatic presupposition to communicate with the audience,and the successful decoding is regarded as the division of group boundaries.At the same time,the program divides the circle mainly by the field of the guests.At the same time,the audience constantly confirms their identity following the content of the program,so as to obtain a sense of group belonging and social identity,and enhance their emotional and value significance.Roasters and roastees conduct dialogues in a way that is contrary to social manner and violating the politeness principle in interpersonal communication.The audience and roasters express their views and opinions on public topics through roasting.In addition,the audience will also have personal expression besides the roast topic.All of these above represent the desire of the general public for the right of speech,and they also carry out a kind of resistance to the mainstream discourse when they seize the right of speech.Roast Carnival is a common cause of many factors such as the psychological needs of the public and social environment.Although there are certain rationality and positive significance,we should be alert to the invasion of privacy caused by excessive entertainment,verbal violence due to bad communication and the digestion of rational thinking by fragmented expression in the era of the Roast Carnival.Otherwise,Carnival will lose its significance of subversion and renewal,which leads us to the abyss of "Amusement to death".
