Research On Framework For Internet Basic Behavior Measurement Metrics

After more than 20 years of research in the field of network measurement in theory,engineering,technology,practice,and standards,many results have been produced in the areas of network performance,network traffic,and network topology.There is a lack of coordination and coordination mechanisms,and a lack of commonly recognized standards.This paper combines the characteristics of the Internet architecture and the actual experience of network measurement,and based on work experience in the existing measurement standards,proposes a hierarchical,multi-granularity framework for Internet basic behavior metrics.The work of this thesis starts from the research of the existing standard in the field of Internet basic behavior measurement—framework for IP performance metrics,and studies other derivative and supplementary content including specific metics specifications,measurement methods and measurement protocols,with this framework as the core.After that,the foundation of the framework for internet basic behavior metrics-the composition of the internet architecture is studied,and it is divided into two parts: structure and protocol.On this basis,the definition of Internet basic behavior measurement is given.Then,the related fields of Internet basic behavior measurement including performance measurement,routing measurement,topology measurement,DNS measurement and traffic measurement are studied.On the basis of fully studying the literature,the category of metrics in each field is given.And combined with the existing related research work,the paper summarizes the commonly used metrics,that is,gives the name,meaning,type and unit of each metric.Subsequently,the relevant definitions of the basic Internet behavior measurement metrics are given,based on the definition and analysis of the characteristics of the Internet basic behavior measurement metrics,combined with the existing performance metric specifications and commonly used metrics,the elements required for an metrics are analyzed.On this basis,combined with measurement theory,the relationship among Internet basic behavior measurement metrics,measurement activities,measurement source data and measurement results is discussed,and the contents of the four are analyzed in a more standardized manner.According to the results of the analysis,the metric elements of the framework for Internet basic behavior metrics are obtained,including 9 elements: name,semantic,representation,topic,subject,entity,attribute,parameters and other.It also formulated the attributes of Internet basic behavior measurement activities and the representation of measurement results.The attributes include six attributes including metrics' name,metrics' parameter,measurement point,entity object,data source description,and measurement method.The measurement result is a twotuple<measurement time,measurement value> or <measurement time,entity object,measurement value> triples,depending on whether the attributes of the entity object change during the measurement activity.Finally,the paper presents the steps of using this framework to formulate new Internet basic behavior metrics,and respectively gives performance measurement metrics,routing measurement metrics,topology measurement metrics,DNS measurement metrics,and traffic measurement metrics as examples.
