IP networks, Internet as one of their representations, are becoming basic communication facilities of our society. As the scale of IP network expands continuously, network bandwidth increases in double and its structure becomes more and more inhomogeneous and complex, it is necessary for topology structure and network behavior to be understood and analyzed for the Internet, correct and effective measurement is very important for Internet, getting available and reliable data evaluate network capability, take some pertinent measure.This thesis firstly analyses and researches IP network measurement and its related technologies, and then discusses IP network performance measurement based on network flow. The main achievements are described as follows:This thesis realizes network layer topology discovery based on SNMP protocols. Using both network route searching algorithm and correlation protocols get route information from route devices in IP network, by route information can make graphical network topology chart, applying discovered topology framework to distributed network traffic measurement deploy network probe.This thesis realizes a distributed traffic measurement system based on dot NET, and fully discusses the infrastructure, system flow process and implement of this system in details. This system is based on active measurement and passive measurement. In traffic acquisition respect, its work scatters to each gathering point, at the same time it controls and manages the running circumstances of every part of traffic acquisition and disposal in real-time way. The system can provide graphical user interface to show the historical data and real-time data intuitively by graphics mode.The system uses relational database management system for storage and management of network flow data. Making use of distributed computing environment, the system separates business layer from data layer commendably. Thus it has preferable extensibility and portability. Data packetcompact means reduce saved data bulks and correctly analyze network traffic characters in measuring process, Dynamic Linkable Library technology, When this system is running, reducing the size of system files and memory space demanding, enhancing system running efficiency. The system, employing a distributed architecture, gives a quite well supporting platform for the measure and analysis of large-scale network traffic.
