From Domination To Decline: A Study On The Change Of Media Role Of Hong Kong Television In The Life Of Guangzhou Citizens

Guangdong is the only province where Hong Kong TV can be deployed,and it is also the region with the most overseas TV deployments.Over the past 40 years of reform and opening up,what kind of media role has overseas TV,represented by Hong Kong TV,played in the daily lives of the people in Guangdong? What changes have taken place in these media roles? What caused the change of media role? This research takes Hong Kong TV as the research object,based on role theory,and mainly discusses the above issues through in-depth interviews with Guangzhou citizens.The study found that the development of Hong Kong TV in Guangzhou has gone through three stages of dominance,stalemate,and decline.Under the dominance stage,Hong Kong TV plays a role as a fill-in maker of mainland news,a supplier of entertainment and fashion,and a leader in international information in the lives of Guangzhou citizens.In the stalemate stage,Hong Kong TV plays the role of an entertainer of pastime life,a carrier of advertising information,and two places in the life of Guangzhou citizens.Cultural communicator,family relationship maintainer,and presenter of Hong Kong society;in the decline stage,Hong Kong TV plays a role as a classic film and television reminiscence in the life of Guangzhou citizens.In a nutshell,Hong Kong TV plays a role in the life of Guangzhou citizens.The role of media has experienced the evolution from multiple roles to a single role.What influences the evolution of Hong Kong TV's role in the lives of Guangzhou citizens are not only social structural factors,but also interactive factors between the mainland and Hong Kong.The nature of its evolution is a gradual quantitative change under the background of changing times.These findings can help people understand Hong Kong's historical role in China's reform and opening up and the close connection between Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta region,and also provide useful enlightenment for the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area today.
