The Practice And Enlightenment Of Academic Publishing In American University Libraries

With the rapid development of Internet and the rise of open access movement in recent years,academic publishing in university libraries has become a breakthrough in the innovation of academic communication model.As an important institution of Higher Education and Scientific Research,it is necessary for academic libraries to innovate the mode of academic exchange and accelerate the dissemination of academic knowledge.As the forerunner of Academic Publishing Business,American University libraries have rich experience in publishing practice,its rapid development benefits from the rich sources of publications,stable user groups,Mature Technical Foundation and perfect talent team of American University libraries.American University libraries develop academic publishing business through various ways,such as setting up diversified publishing projects,publishing platforms,making long-term preservation strategies of digital resources,and building high-quality librarians.Academic publishing in American University libraries has achieved good results in the past 30 years,its success lies in the emphasis on inter-agency cooperation,the development of multi-channel sources of funding,the active encouragement of student participation in publishing activities and the emphasis on the development of indicators and plans for sustainable development.But there are also some problems,for example,the mechanism of publication quality control is not perfect,the enthusiasm of scientific researchers is not high,the difficulty of publishing business development is not perfect,the enthusiasm of scientific researchers is not high and the difficulty of publishing project development in some libraries is great.To some extent,these problems affect the further development of academic publishing business,which should be avoided in the development of academic publishing in university libraries in China.China's publishing industry has gradually arisen along with scholars' attention to the open access movement,but the development of academic publishing in university libraries is still relatively slow,there are some problems in academic publishing of university libraries in China,such as insufficient understanding of publishing,imperfect laws and policies,shortage of funds,low attention to the construction of publishing professionals and lack of diversified types of cooperative organizations,etc.,learning from the successful experience of Academic Publishing Practice in American University libraries,this paper summarizes that the university libraries in China should strengthen the promotion and publicity,formulate and perfect the relevant policies,widen the sources of funds,establish and perfect the quality control mechanism,strengthen the construction of the publishing staff,actively explore the win-win cooperation mode and enhance the participation of university students in the academic publication of the library,etc.,promoting the sustainable and stable development of the publishing cause in university libraries.
