Research On Foreign-related Anti-epidemic Report Of Global Times From The Perspective Of Framework Theory

According to goffman,framework is a tool to explain and recognize our environment.Indeed,as the "first draft of history",news can also see the news framework that runs through it,which plays an important role in shaping public understanding and cognition.There is a fierce "discourse" game hidden in the complex and changeable international public opinion field during the COVID-19 epidemic.By studying the news reporting framework,we can understand the social reality shaped by the media and re-experience the history of anti-epidemic development in various countries in the news.In this study,the foreign-related anti-epidemic reports of Chinese newspapers in the first half of 2020(that is,the first wave of epidemic)of Global Times were selected as the research model,and the reports in this period were divided into three stages according to the response measures of foreign epidemic,that is,spreading-"sealing"-unsealing.In the issue cycle,we try to analyze the framework from three levels: high,medium and low.In the high-level structure,this paper analyzes the diachronic framework from the seven general news frameworks summarized by De Vreese.In the middle-level structure,according to the three stages of division and the specific epidemic events,the national group image middle-level framework is analyzed.In the low-level structure,on the one hand,the United States,the country with the highest reporting frequency,is selected to make a detailed analysis of its related reporting words and emotions,and on the other hand,it makes a concrete analysis according to the extracted three typical commonly used frameworks.The results show that the Global Times has a tendency of uneven coverage when it reports the news of anti-epidemic in various countries.In addition to the fact that some countries,such as Japan,South Korea,Italy and the United States,have become the "central area" of the actual epidemic with the spread of the epidemic,so there is more coverage in the Global Times,which covers Europe,America and Asia.In addition,news reports in the framework dominated by objective facts account for more than half of the total,followed by news reports in the framework biased towards economic consequences and news reports in the framework biased towards human feelings.The overall reporting mood is objective and neutral,and there is no stigmatization of foreign anti-epidemic reports.Global Times reports that American news pays more attention to hard news such as epidemic situation,politics,economy and international relations,and seldom reports related soft news.Its report on the epidemic situation in the United States presents the United States as a country image that preached racial discrimination such as anti-Chinese in the early stage,implemented geopolitics in the middle stage,politicized the prevention and control of the epidemic situation and tried its best to "throw the pot" at China,and the domestic epidemic situation was difficult to control in the later stage.Especially,in the news of the dispute framework,such as virus theory,blame-throwing,Pompeo's anti-China speech and Trump's anti-epidemic policy,the words are often bold.Global Times protested and clarified the discredited remarks about China in a clear-cut manner in important pages,and strongly refuted them by quoting a large number of influential people,media or organizations at home and abroad.In addition,the factors affecting the foreign-related anti-epidemic reports of Global Times mainly include four aspects: comprehensive national strength affects the attention of reports,cultural barriers lead to differences in values,racial discrimination and geopolitics emerging in some countries,and the inevitability caused by time difference and anxiety of anti-epidemic.Finally,under the normalization of the epidemic,the Global Times should gain insight into the trend of international public opinion when conducting international health communication,promptly refute the wrong remarks about China incited by people with heart,and assume the responsibility of publicizing the flagship media;On the other hand,we should further adopt the ethical principle of traffic lights to report foreign anti-epidemic news,so as to reduce the entropy influence of information plague from outside.By establishing the common meaning space of Chinese and foreign people,we can realize cross-cultural sympathy,and finally build a community of human health.
