The Study On Investigative Data Journalism

As an emerging news category,data journalism has changed the concept and method of news production,created a new news production process,put forward higher requirements on the ability of journalists,and changed the focus of the role of journalists.The rise of data journalism has injected vitality into the news industry.As the application of data journalism in the field of investigative reporting,investigative data reporting has also made corresponding developments.There are a large number of excellent investigative reports presented in the form of data journalism,and a number of excellent investigative data reports have also emerged in the global data journalism awards.In order to explore the impact of investigative data journalism on journalism,this article uses the works of the University of Florida Award for Investigative Data Journalism as a case study to examine the theme of news,data sources,report structure,report influence,data use,data processing,and data visualization.Analyze and summarize the characteristics of investigative data journalism and find out how the investigative data journalism affects the news industry.Analyzing all the works(50 articles in total)of the University of Florida Award for Investigative Data Journalism from 2014 to 2020,it is found that investigative data journalism is characterized by a wide range of reporting fields,mainly social and legal subjects;public data is the main and supplementary collected independently and leaked by others;the report structure takes progressive as the main form,and there are complementary and parallel forms;most reports have social repercussions,mainly for the parties and the legal level;data integration reporting is the main method,and individual data visualization is gradually developing;the data processing process is relatively complex,covering multiple aspects of data analysis;data visualization forms are diverse,and charts and interactions complement each other.It can be concluded that the characteristics of investigative data journalism are multi-content integration and focus on news value;multiple sources of data are used to effectively support the content of the report;data visualization is diversified,and the theme of the report is visually displayed.The study found that investigative data journalism uses multiple sources of data,uses multiple visualization methods,and emphasizes teamwork,which expands the breadth and depth of the report field,enhances the authenticity of the report,improves the readability of the report and the audience's participation,and expands the impact of the report.Investigative data journalism has created a new production of news reports in terms of production processes and production concepts,and has put forward higher requirements for journalists:cultivating data literacy,strengthening teamwork,adapting to the focus of the role changes,and at the same time in reporting fields,information verification and the media expression level points out a new development path for traditional investigative reporting.
