Research On Memes Culture From The Perspective Of Carnival Theory

Today,with the rapid development of new image production technology,viral spread memes on social platforms have become a kind of "image landscape",which means that the social context has turned from language communication to image communication.With subcultural emotions,the memes virally spreading in a joking way on social platforms,indicates that we have entered the era of "image carnival".At present,memes in social platforms can successfully replace words for the dissemination of information,and make the online social language greatly enriched,and its impact has greatly penetrated into our lives.This article uses the carnival theory to analyze the rationality and criticism of the carnival of online memes,and further points out the social hidden dangers brought by the carnival of memes and its future development trend.This study shows that the dissemination of online memes has the carnival characteristics of universal,ritual,and subversive.It creates a carnival square of equality and freedom,where people can use witty civilian language for dialogue,and this kind of popular culture is also gradually approved and recognized by the official mainstream.It cannot be ignored that online memes also have some problems,such as simple entertainment,excessive carnival,suspected legal and moral boundaries and so on.Therefore,all parties shall cooperate with norms to guide the development of online memes in a positive direction.This article comprehensively uses the four research methods of network ethnography,investigation and research,interview,and case analysis,to discuss the carnival phenomenon of memes culture from many angles.The innovation lies in exploring the phenomenon of memes carnival through the research method of network ethnography,and combing and analyzing the latest "worker memes",which there is no similar discussion in academic circles.
