Content Analysis Of Poverty Alleviation Reports In Chinese Media Since Reform And Opening-up(1978-2018)

Poverty has always been an important social problem that has troubled China's economic and social development,and it is also an issue of people's livelihood that the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government have been trying to solve for many years.Since the reform and opening-up,the Chinese government has attached great importance to poverty alleviation.In particular,with the convening of the 18 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China,the state has once again elevated poverty alleviation to a new level.With the participation of the whole people,a vigorous fight against poverty has been launched.As an important part of social system,media play an important role in setting and disseminating issues.Therefore,the study of media reports on poverty alleviation is not only conducive to promoting the public's understanding of poverty alleviation,but also to building an information platform for poverty alleviation,creating a good atmosphere of public opinion,and providing reference for the government to improve relevant public policies.Based on the framework theory,this study takes the poverty alleviation report of People's Daily from1978 to 2018 as the research sample,and uses the content analysis method to deeply explore the characteristics and existing problems of the poverty alleviation report by People's Daily.Through content analysis and text analysis,it found that the media has been focusing on poverty alleviation issues for a long time in the past 40 years,especially in2011-2018 when the number of reports increased significantly,and the agenda setting was obvious.Public reports are mainly positive reports,while negative reports are less than neutral reports.The theme of poverty alleviation report is rich,involving political,economic,social,ecological and other aspects.The two themes of “industrial economy”and “government dynamics” constitute the main topics of poverty alleviation report in the past 40 years,among which the media's coverage of “industrial economy” is the highest.“Countermeasure framework” has always been the main framework for poverty alleviation reports,but the emphasis content of each stage is different.“Responsibility framework”,“effect framework” and “emotion transmission framework” and so on account for a small proportion.The areas involved in the poverty alleviation report are concentrated in the southwest,and the reports on the concentrated contiguous impoverished areas are relatively few.The types of groups involved in the report are diverse,with the most reports on government officials,and four media image types of government officials are constructed,including propagandists,organizers,actors and responsible persons,are constructed.The innovations of this study are as follows.First,based on the time series,this paper makes a long-term study of the reports on poverty alleviation in Chinese media since the reform and opening-up,and makes a comparative study of the reports on poverty alleviation in different periods from such categories as the theme,framework and tendency of the reports.Secondly,the analysis of poverty alleviation reporting framework and its conclusions are full of new ideas and reference value.Through vertical analysis of the “countermeasure framework” of poverty alleviation reporting,it is found that the “countermeasure framework” of different periods has different emphasis content and its content is closely related to the development of The Times,which provides a valuable discussion point for the whole paper.
