The "Belt and Road" initiative is a national top-level cooperation project proposed by China in recent years.the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor,as its flagship project,the demonstration role has been widely studied by acholars at home and abroad.At present,the academic research on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor mainly focuses on the strategic significance,risk analysis and policy recommendations.Few studies have been carried out on media coverage.The China Daily,as an extension of Chinese media abroad,plays a leading role in China's foreign communication.The Dawn as the most widely read newspaper in Pakistan,together speak in the international public opinion field for the promotion of t the China-Pakistan Economic CorridorThis article adopts a discourse analysis method that combines quantitative and qualitative methods,selects the English reports of the China and Pakistan mainstream media " the China Daily and the Dawn about the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor as samples.Firstly,the content of the news category is analyzed in the form of quantitative content analysis,to statistics,describe and cross-cut the news categories constructed,thus as to make an overall analysis of the number,theme,form,and source of reports about the CPEC.Secondly,using text perspective of Van Dick's discourse analysis and the perspective of Shi Xu's cultural discourse analysis to study the real attitudes,cognitive differences and the causes of reports on the CPEC issue of the China Daily and the Dawn from three aspects of reporting strategy,ideology and context.Eventually putting forward corresponding suggestions for the external communication of the CPEC.Through research,it is found that the two newspapers both support the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor due to the consideration of the country's fundamental interests,but the characteristics of the reports are quite different.The China Daily mainly focuses on the actual results at the economic and political levels,but in the terms of soft power,such as the construction of corridor images and external communication,it appears to be relatively weak.The dawn's report covers multiple levels and angles,from high-level issues to practical issues and even negative issues,thus the image of the corridor constructed is relatively lively.It reminds the audience while embrace the corridor construction,also soberly fighting and protecting the interests of Pakistan.Although the two newspapers use different reporting methods,they jointly present the characteristics of justice,openness and solemnity,and reflect the values of advocating authority.Through discourse analysis,combined with the perspective of oriental discourse,this study found that,social environment,cultural and historical environment all have an impact on media reports.This article recommends that the China-Pakistan media strengthen the construction of discourse,enhance the national voice through dialogue,and improve the media's cross-cultural communication capabilities.Making the report localized and people-friendly.Guiding the Pakistani media to play an active role,and jointly tell well the story of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
