With the continuous improvement of the level of science and technology,science and technology products have been widely used in life,and people’s production and life style also has new changes.The traditional teaching mode has been unable to meet the needs of the society for innovative and compound talents.With the deepening of basic education curriculum reform,the Ministry of education has revised the curriculum standards,promulgated and implemented the curriculum standards of general high school(2017 Edition),and the focus of teaching has changed to pay attention to the cultivation of students’ core literacy,especially the cultivation of students’ comprehensive thinking.Geography is comprehensive and practical,and many cases come from life.However,the current geography classroom teaching is lack of situational,seriously divorced from life,and it is difficult to achieve the effective path of cultivating students’ inquiry ability.As a new force in the field of education,STEAM education is characterized by the comprehensive use of multiple disciplines for interdisciplinary integration teaching,and the cultivation of students’ comprehensive ability and knowledge application ability,so as to solve the problems encountered in real life.There are many similarities between the characteristics of geography and STEAM education,which can better highlight the characteristics of geography,In line with the requirements of the new curriculum standards for the cultivation of innovative talents,it helps to achieve the all-round development of students.Therefore,it is particularly necessary to introduce STEAM education into high school geography teaching.Due to the short history of STEAM education in China,there are few teaching researches and teaching examples on how to integrate STEAM education concept with senior high school geography education,and some researches are lack of operability.In this paper,the concept of STEAM education,the status quo and the feasibility of its application in geography teaching are analyzed by using the method of literature.By sending questionnaires to teachers and students,the understanding and attitude of teachers and students about STEAM education are counted.The problems existing in the current geography classroom teaching are found,and the improvement strategies are put forward.After analyzing the content of the compulsory geography textbook for senior high school in the PEP senior high school experimental textbook,this paper combs and anticipates the contents applicable to STEAM education according to the curriculum standard.According to the principles and processes of STEAM teaching design and teaching implementation,this paper selects "the influence of the sun on the earth" and "water cycle" from the combed contents by using the method of case analysis,Two learning themes of "light and shadow-direct sunlight and life" and "listening to the crying voice of the sea" in Nanning "are formed to carry out the detailed design of STEAM teaching,and the teaching reflection is carried out from three aspects: the selection and emphasis of teaching content,the selection of teaching methods and the arrangement of teaching time.Through the analysis,we can see that STEAM education can effectively improve students’ interest in learning,expand students’ thinking and enhance their team cooperation ability.Students not only gain knowledge of geography and other disciplines from the process of practical operation,but also improve their ability to apply what they have learned to real life and solve practical problems,and promote the formation of students’ good learning habits,The core literacy and thinking ability of geography can also be better penetrated.For teachers,the development of STEAM education can spur teachers to continuously improve their comprehensive quality and promote the improvement of teachers’ comprehensive strength.In the last part of the summary and reflection,this paper hopes to provide some suggestions for middle school teachers to improve the application of STEAM education in high school geography teaching and teaching methods.
