As an important carrier of information dissemination,the media plays an important role in maintaining and stabilizing society.With the advent of the information age,people are exposed to information networks created by various media such as newspapers and magazines,radio,television,and the Internet.On the one hand,the use of media is more convenient and the content delivered is more abundant;on the other hand,we should also fully realize that our development is facing some unprecedented new problems and challenges.Paying attention to and improving the public's media literacy is an important prerequisite for coping with the current extremely complex multi-media social environment and adapting to the rapidly developing information society.Among them,the rapid rise of representative new media,such as the Internet and smart phones,has profoundly changed the life of the public and affected the level of public media literacy.In the information age,as the main contacts and users of new media,undergraduates especially need to cultivate and improve their own media literacy,especially in terms of serving society and learning.The research aims at presenting the status quo of media literacy of undergraduates in higher education institutes of minzu,by exploring influencing factors such as personal characteristics,media contact and course offerings,and digging out the current problems in the media literacy training of undergraduates in higher education institutes of minzu,in order to propose corresponding countermeasures.This study selects Beijing M University to conduct a case study,adopts a mixed research paradigm,and uses quantitative and qualitative research methods to collect and analyze the research data.Among them,the questionnaire survey method is mainly used to understand the development status of undergraduates'media literacy in higher education institutes of minzu,and methods such as chi-square test and accumulated difference correlation analysis are used to describe and analyze the status of undergraduates' media literacy,including the use of media contact by undergraduates.The media exposure situation and the media literacy of undergraduates are two major aspects.Use independent sample T test,one-way analysis of variance and other methods to analyze the differences in media literacy of undergraduates in higher education institutes of minzu and universities in different background variables,including gender,grade,major,and ethnicity,to better understand undergraduates' media literacy distribution characteristics in different background characteristics;using semi-open interview methods to understand the current status of media literacy of undergraduates in higher education institutes of minzu from five aspects:background information,school development,course implementation,learning experience,and media literacy self-development and cultivation status,selected 14 undergraduates for one-on-one interviews,from Zhuang,Yi,Uygur,Kazakh,Mongolian,Han,etc.The study found that,from the perspective of media exposure,undergraduates have more types of exposure,mainly based on new media such as the Internet,with longer media exposure,and the motivation of exposure is pan-entertainment;from the perspective of media knowledge,undergraduates Generally grasp the basic knowledge of media,but lack of deeper knowledge,especially the lack of knowledge of media production and media law;from the perspective of media skills,undergraduates have basic operational skills,but lack of professional tools,showing the characteristics of large individual differences and imbalance;from the perspective of media ethics,the students' media ethics are generally well-performed,but in terms of media ethical behavior,further improvement is needed;from the perspective of media awareness,undergraduates have basic media participation awareness,awareness of access to information and awareness of media criticism,but the attitude of participating in public affairs still needs to be strengthened.When analyzing the differences in media literacy of undergraduates in terms of background characteristics,undergraduates generally show the characteristics of unbalanced development.At present,the media literacy of undergraduates in higher education institutes of minzu have the following problems:First,from the school level,colleges and universities have insufficient attention to media literacy education,lack of educational atmosphere and teaching practice platform,not formed a sound curriculum system,and insufficient teachers.Secondly,from the perspective of the students themselves,the overall development of students is not balanced,especially at the level of media knowledge literacy.They rely too much on the media,lack critical thinking,and have a weak awareness of actively participating in public affairs.Thirdly,from the perspective of the new media environment,new media uses big data to accurately push media information and create a mimicry environment to make students indulge in information cocoon rooms.Their rational thinking is eroded,and new media lack effective management of dissemination content,which increases the identification burden of undergraduates.In response to the above problems,combined with specific actual conditions,the improvement measures to improve the media literacy of undergraduates in ethnic colleges are proposed:first,the government should provide policy support,publicize media literacy education,and strengthen effective supervision of online public opinion information;secondly,colleges and universities should pay full attention to media literacy education,and build a media literacy education practice platform for the improvement of students'media literacy,strengthen the construction of the campus environment,improve the curriculum,and strengthen the construction of the master team;thirdly,the student should actively participate in public affairs and enhance media literacy awareness and actively learn media knowledge,in order to obtain the promotion of media skills and the continuous enhancement of media ethics;fourth,the social should use the advantages of media institutions to strengthen the supervision of media content and promote the implementation of media literacy education.
