A Report On The Translation From The Translation Variation Theor

Japanese oriental historiography emerged under the stimulation of Japanese nationalism,and had an important influence on the teaching of modern Chinese history and the development of historiography.At present,the domestic research on Japanese oriental historiography is gradually deepening,involving historians,ideology and cultural concepts.Looking forward to making a modest contribution to the study of Oriental historiography,this paper selects “The Complete Works of Shiratori Kurakichi” Volume1,Chapter 7 “The Structure of the History of God" written by Shiratori Kurakichi as the translated text of the translation practice report.The spirit of the history of the gods,the relationship between the Japanese king and the Southern Dynasties of China and other contents introduced in the text are of great value for the study of Oriental historiography and Shiratori Kurakichi thought.When translating historical texts,the translator needs to supplement the cultural meaning of proper nouns,and the translator needs to screen out the core content from the large and complex articles to convey real and useful information to the readers.Both the quality and efficiency of translation are required.The translatio n variation theory proposes seven variation devices,including addition,deletion,editi ng,narration,condensation,conbination and adaption,emphasizing the interests of re aders,liberating translators,and reducing the amount of labor for full translation.In the end,while conveying the main idea of the original text,the translator’s tr anslation efficiency and the reader’s reading efficiency are improved.The idea that the translation variation theory attaches importance to readers and efficiency prov ides new inspiration for the translation of historical texts.Therefore,this paper c hooses Huang Zhonglian’s the translation variation theory as the guiding theory.This translation practice report is divided into four parts: preface,translation variation theory,case analysis and final chapter.The preface mainly introduces the translation task,the research of historical texts and translation variation theory at home and abroad,as well as the translation process;The part of translation variation theory introduces the definition,connotation and essential characteristics of translation variation theory in detail.The case analysis part analyzes the representative cases from three aspects: word level,sentence level and sentence group level.In terms of the word level,the means of addition are used to add relevant explanations to proper nouns.In the terms of sentence level,the means of narration and adaption are used to narrate and modify complex sentence patterns.In terms of sentence groups level,the original texts are merged,deleted,compressed and edited by means of conbination,deletion,condensation and editing.The final chapter is the summary and prospect of this translation practice.First of all,according to this translation practice,it is believed that the translation variation theory is an effective method to achieve the quality and efficiency of historical text translation.Second,there are still deficiencies in this practice.For example,the limitations of the translator’s translation level,the deviation of understanding part of the text,and the limitations of the analysis object.
