A Translation Report Of Comics’ Texts Of Century History Of The CPC Under The Guidance Of Skopos Theory

With the development of globalization,comic,as a representative of popular art,has become an important means of disseminating national culture.However,the development of Chinese comics still lags far behind that of the West.Moreover,most domestic scholars are enthusiastic about studying the Chinese translation of foreign comics,neglecting the external translation of Chinese comics,which makes this translation practice of great significance.This translation practice chooses the first volume of Century History of the CPC as the Source text,which is a historical popular science comic book.It recounts the history of the Chinese Communist Party(CPC)from its establishment to the founding of the People’s Republic of China.A quality translation of it can not only help to promote Chinese comics to the international market,but also motivates more foreigners to have the opportunity to know the CPC’s history.Moreover,this report would provide a valuable reference for similar translations in the future.This Comic book combines the historical theme with humor,and the texts in it are both serious and interesting.As for the texts that appears in the pictures,they are concise,colloquial,obscure and ironic,which show the liveliness and vividness of the ST,aiming to narrow the gap between its audiences.On the contrary,the texts out of the pictures,always presented in long paragraphs,focusing on the description of historical events,are impersonal and rigorous.How to translate and integrate these two texts with vastly different characteristics has become the focus of this translation study.Meanwhile,at the lexical level,a large number of culture-loaded words,exclamations and buzzwords appear in the source text;At the syntactic level,there are many run-on sentences,active sentences with passive meaning and zero-subject sentences;At the discourse level,there are various rhetorical devices,doggerels and an antithetical couplet.All of these have become great difficulties in the translation process.Guided by Skopos Theory,the translator analyzes various translation strategies and methods used in the translation process,attaching great importance to the purpose of this translation activity.And he tries to keep the original style as much as possible while accurately conveying the information to the target readers.
