Covert narcissism refers to the individual’s exaggerated sense of self, believing that he or she is entitled to special treatment, yet exhibiting particularly sensitive and vulnerable personality traits.Aggressive behavior is behaviour that is intentionally hurtful to others and that others will go to great lengths to avoid being hurt in this way. This study explores the current status of covert narcissism,self-forgiveness,emotion-regulation strategies and aggression among high school students, and the relationship between the four,in order to provide suggestions for reducing aggressive behaviour among high school students. In this study,783 high school students from three high schools in Harbin,Heilongjiang and Baoding,Hebei Province were used to analyse and process the data collected using the Implicit Narcissistic Personality Questionnaire, the Heartland Forgiveness Scale, the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire and the Aggressive Behaviour Questionnaire. The results of the study are as follows:(1)High school students’ covert narcissism is at a moderately high level, with significant differences in gender, grade level, household location, monthly household income, and parental education.(2)High school students’ self-forgiveness is above average, with significant differences in gender, grade level, monthly household income, and parental education.(3)High school students’ emotion-regulation strategies is above average, with significant differences in gender, grade level, household location, and parental education.(4)The frequency of aggressive behaviour among high school students is at a moderate to low level, with significant differences in gender, grade level, household location, whether they are single-parent families, monthly household income and parents’ education level.(5)There are significant two-by-two correlations between covert narcissism,self-forgiveness,emotion-regulation strategies and aggressive behaviour among high school students.(6)High school students’ self-forgiveness and emotion-regulation strategies act as a chain mediator between covert narcissism and aggression. Conclusion: High school students’ covert narcissism positively predicts aggression, while self-forgiveness and emotion-regulation strategies negatively predicts aggression, and covert narcissism can influence aggression through the chain mediating effect of self-forgiveness and emotion-regulation strategies. Therefore, the frequency of aggressive behaviour in high school students can be reduced by improving their covert narcissistic traits and increasing their level of self-forgiveness and emotional-regulation.Based on this, this paper provides suggestions from school, family and social environments to enhance high school students’ self-forgiveness and emotion-regulation strategies and reduce the frequency of aggressive behaviour.
