School Garden based Education is an educational form that points to the real situation.It takes the school garden as the learning space,which enables students to establish direct contact with the natural world,and can learn related agricultural concepts,mathematics,science,art,sports,society and other disciplines and interdisciplinary knowledge.It is precisely because the school garden has important educational potential to make learning real and vivid,and cultivate students’ sense of social responsibility and civic awareness,so the diversified learning methods and courses based on the school garden have been widely developed all over the world.On the one hand,with the deepening of the educational reform that points to the development of students’ core literacy in China,especially the implementation of educational reforms such as comprehensive education and practical education,school garden based education has been more and more recognized in primary and secondary schools all over the country,and its educational practice attempts are becoming more and more common.However,because school garden education is still a relatively new form of education in China,there are still many difficulties that need to be broken through in the process of exploratory advancement,such as being presented in the form of extracurricular activities and lacking systematic planning and theoretical guidance.On the other hand,the school garden education in American has a long history of more than 130 years since 1890.At present,school garden-based education in the United States is not only still popular,but also has another upsurge of development.With the support of federal,local,corporate and non-profit organizations,this education has entered the public education system and is leading in the world.Based on this,this study takes American school garden education as the analysis object,and focuses on the core research issue of the enlightenment of the development and practical experience of American school garden education to Chinese education.It systematically studies the development and practical cases of American school garden education by means of literature research,case study and comparative study,and concludes the beneficial experience of American school garden education and its possible enlightenment to Chinese school garden education.The basic structure of this study is as follows: Chapter One briefly explains the research background,significance,research ideas and methods,and defines the core concepts such as "school garden","school garden based education" and "school garden curriculum".Chapter Two summarizes the related research on "American school garden education" and "Chinese school garden education".Chapter Three combs the theory of embodied cognition,local education theory and Kolb’s experiential learning theory,which provides the theoretical basis for this study.Chapter Four expounds the historical context and driving force of school garden education in American in detail,and summarizes the experience of historical development.Chapter Five introduces and analyzes four different types of school garden education practice cases in the United States,and summarizes the characteristics and principles of school garden education in the United States.Chapter Six summarizes the beneficial experience of school garden education in American based on the analysis of previous chapters,and puts forward the enlightenment of school garden education in American to garden education,labor education and ecological education in China.
