The demand for high-quality workers has increased in the 21 century.As an important institution to cultivate high-quality application-oriented technicians,higher vocational colleges have been attached great importance to by the state.Higher vocational education not only enables students to master excellent professional skills,but also improves their comprehensive quality and general ability.General education is an important part of higher vocational education.As an educational idea and practice corresponding to professional education,general education pays attention to students’ master of basic knowledge of a wide range of disciplines and the cultivation of students’ humanistic literacy and comprehensive ability.Due to various reasons,general education has been in a subordinate position in the development of higher vocational colleges for a long time.Insufficient ideological emphasis leads to problems such as unreasonable curriculum design of general education and the lag of curriculum construction.The basic role of general education in talent cultivation has not been brought into play.Under the background of deepening the reform of vocational education and the transform ation of higher vocational education from scale expansion to connotation construction,this paper explores the curriculum of general education which is closely related to the quality of talent training in higher vocational colleges.Higher vocational education is a kind of education,and general education is a kind of educational thought and mode.Higher vocationa l education should embody the characteristics of vocational education and be guided bystuden ts’employment and career development.However,students’employability is not only closely related to their professional knowledge and skills,but also closely related to their comprehensive humanistic literacy and professional literacy.The curriculum of general education is an important curriculum module to improve students’comprehensive humanistic literacy and professional literacy in higher vocational colleges.By consulting the teaching documents and related curriculum data of medical higher vocational colleges in Henan Province,this study understands the basic situation of curriculum management,Teachers and curriculum design of general education in these higher vocational colleges,and understands the cognitive recognition of general education concept,curriculum value and goal between teachers and students through questionnaires and interviews,and listens to the opinions and suggestions of teachers and students on the setting,teaching and evaluation of general education courses.Through the investigation,it is found that there are some problems in the curriculum of general education in these higher vocational colleges,such as the deviation of reading cognition,the lack of system design,the backwardness of teaching mode,the lack of strict curriculum evaluation and so on.This paper holds that the main reasons for these problems are the old idea of running a school,the poor foundation of general education curriculum construction,the weak strength of the teaching staff of general education curriculum,and the low efficiency of teaching management of general education course.It is considered that higher vocational colleges should make efforts in renewing the concept of vocational education,perfecting the training scheme of talents,developing the curriculum of general education,strengthening the construction of teachers in the course of general education,improving the course management of general education,reforming the teaching and evaluation mode,and so on,so as to improve the quality of talent training in higher vocational colleges.
