In order to meet the needs of social development,China has gradually implemented the policy of expanding the number of graduate students since 2003,and the number of graduate students in the school has grown rapidly.More and more graduate students are flooding into the job market like a wave,and the problem of difficult employment has gradually affected high-level graduate students.The concept of career choice is the premise of graduate students’ employment,which includes the cognition,motivation and expectation of career choice and so on.The formation of the concept of employment is not only influenced by the personal capital factors such as the major,knowledge,ability and quality,as well as the external environment such as employment policy and labor market demand,but also by the family background environment of their growth,which is of great significance.Therefore,this paper takes the cultural capital in the family capital as the starting point of the research,and reveals the influence of the family cultural capital on the career choice of the master’s students.On this basis,it puts forward policy suggestions to promote the employment of universities in China.On the basis of reading and sorting out relevant literature at home and abroad,this paper adopts the methods of questionnaire survey and interview to conduct in-depth analysis on the data and content obtained from the survey,and on this basis,the research conclusions are drawn.In order to better study the influence of family cultural capital on the career choice of postgraduate students,this study issued 300 questionnaires,291 valid questionnaires were obtained,and semi-structured interviews were conducted on the basis of the questionnaire survey.The main findings of the study are as follows:Firstly,most of the postgraduate students have strong self-cognition and vocational cognition ability,think the current employment situation is grim and actively make the attribution of difficulty in choosing a job from their own perspective.There is a positive correlation between the stock of family cultural capital and the self-cognition and vocational cognition of master students,that is,the higher the stock of family cultural capital,the clearer the knowledge of career choice of master students.Secondly,the overall trend of career choice motivation of postgraduate students is relatively strong,while the motivations of career choice of postgraduate students are different with different stock of family cultural capital.The higher the stock of family cultural capital,the stronger the developmental motivation,while the lower the stock of family cultural capital,the stronger the material motivation.Moreover,to some extent,graduate students with a high stock of family cultural capital pay more attention to self-development when choosing a career.Thirdly,graduate students generally have higher salary expectations,and men’s overall salary expectations are higher than women’s.In the type of unit,master’s students are more inclined to the party and government units and institutions of this kind of stable career.The higher the stock of family cultural capital,the higher the expectation of monthly salary,and the more inclined they are to go back to their hometown.However,family cultural capital has little influence on the ideal unit expectation of postgraduate students.Only institutionalized cultural capital has influence on the ideal unit expectation of postgraduate students.The richer the institutionalized cultural capital,the more inclined the postgraduate students are to the establishment of Party and government institutions and institutions when choosing a job.On the basis of the above empirical research results of family cultural capital on the career choice of graduate students,the paper finally puts forward relevant policy suggestions:at the family level,guide parents to carry forward the spirit of democracy,establish the concept of lifelong learning,and constantly improve the family cultural capital to assist graduate students in better career choice and employment;More detailed guidance should be provided at the school level.On the basis of actively building the curriculum system of career planning,family-school cooperation should be emphasized to improve the quality of career guidance.At the social level,more active policies should be formulated to solve the regional crowding of job selection and help the development of the western region.On the individual level,students should dialectically view the influence of family cultural capital,increase their own institutional cultural capital,expand social capital,and form scientific and reasonable values.
