Study On The Relationship Between Social Media Use And College Students’ Tendency Towards Online Nationalism

Since the 1990 s,nationalism has always been one of the focal topics of social concern.Online media,especially social media,have opened up a new expression space and platform for it,and online nationalism has also become one of the hotly discussed social topics that have attracted much attention.College students are not only the most important users of social media,but also the most important participants in the topic of online nationalism.Is there a correlation between social media usage and online nationalism tendencies of college students? This is the core issue discussed in this article.To this end,the author takes university undergraduates as the research object,adopts a questionnaire survey method,analyzes 638 valid samples,summarizes the use of social media and online nationalism tendencies of college students,and empirically reveals the degree of correlation between the two.The study found that college students’ social media use and online nationalism tendencies are both at the upper-middle level;college students’ online nationalism tendencies are significantly different in general social variables such as gender and whether they are student leaders;there is a difference between social media use and online nationalism tendencies There is a significant positive correlation(r=0.155).The deeper the use of social media,the more obvious the tendency of online nationalism.Regression analysis shows that there is a significant positive correlation between the dimensions of social media’s self-representation,information acquisition,interactive experience,and attention utilization and the tendency of online nationalism,while there is a significant relationship between the dimension of social media control and the tendency of online nationalism.The negative correlation(r=-0.102).
