This is an English-Chinese translation report written on the translation practice of the book entitled Teacher Pioneers: Visions from the Edge of the Map(Chapters Three and Four).The book mainly discusses the relationship between games and education by analyzing the value of gamified teaching and its advantages through practical experience and provides readers with a new perspective of game-playing in classroom teaching.As an informative text,the source text features the employment of complex sentence structures and cohesive devices to ensure the authenticity and completeness of the information conveyed.Hence,priority is given to those special sentence patterns and how to achieve coherence and cohesion during the course of translation.Syntactically,the translation of sentences with inanimate subjects and complex sentences is analyzed and corresponding translation methods are put forward.As for the translation of sentences with inanimate subjects,the author adopts the methods of translating inanimate subjects into adverbs,retaining original inanimate subjects as well as reversing inanimate subjects and animate objects.Regarding the translation of complex sentences,restructuring,division and amplification are utilized.Textually,coherence and cohesion are discussed and relevant methods are proposed with the application of reference and conjunctions.This paper intends to present various translation methods for overcoming the challenges that arise during E-C translation with a particular focus on translating sentences with inanimate subjects and complex sentences and achieving coherence and cohesion to be faithful to the original text.What’s more,the author also reflects on the deficiencies of the translation project.It is hoped that the translation will provide inspiration and insights for using games as a pedagogical strategy to teachers in China and at the same time offer some reference in translating such kinds of informative texts. |
