A Practice Report On Chinese Translation Of Complex Sentences In English Academic Text

Complex sentences are difficult in translation practice.Complex sentences have complex structures and various types.At the same time,there are great differences between Chinese and English language structures.If some complex sentences are translated literally or concurrently,they will cause words to fail to convey what the source language wants to express.This puts forward higher requirements for translators.It is necessary to flexibly apply the theoretical knowledge and skills of translation to restore the central ideas that the source language wants to convey according to the syntactic structure and sentence pattern characteristics of different complex sentences.Due to the frequent occurrence of complex sentences in English texts,many difficulties will be encountered in Chinese translation.Exploring the solutions to these difficulties will help to add new perspectives and grounds to the Chinese translation of complex sentences.Based on this,this thesis takes Edwin Gentzler’s Translation and Rewriting in the Age of Post-translation Studies as the translation practice text to analyze and solve the problem of Chinese translation of complex sentences.Translation and Rewriting in the Age of Post-translation Studies is a book with many complex sentences,which are complex and representative.Therefore,in translation practice,it is necessary to carefully analyze the structural relationship between the subject and the subordinate sentences and make appropriate adjustments.In the process of translation,the main problems encountered by the author are the complex structure of causal complex sentences,the lengthy composition of hypothetical complex sentences,and the implicit logical cohesion between condition and purpose complex sentences.Specifically,when translating complex sentences,it is necessary to clarify the backbone of sentences,analyze them reasonably according to grammar and logic,and adopt appropriate translation methods,or transform causal complex sentences according to the logical relationship between the subject and thesubordinate sentences,so as to form a translation that conforms to the characteristics of Chinese language,so as to facilitate the comprehension of the target readers.By translating a large number of examples,the translator concludes that the complex structure of causal complex sentences can be solved by shifting method and changing order method.It is assumed that the redundant components of complex sentences can be solved by intra-sentence integration method and logical reorganization method.The logical manifestation of conditional and teleological complex sentences can be solved by condition and teleological marker manifestation method.Based on the above translation practice,this thesis summarizes the translation experience,methods and rules of complex sentences,hoping to provide some useful methods for the Chinese translation of complex sentences in such academic articles.
