A Report On The C-E Translation Of Sentences In Chinese Political Text

The paper is a C-E translation report based on the 2019 Report on the Work of the Hunan Provincial People’s Government(Excerpt).As an official political text,the report provides an important channel for foreign readers to acquire the provincial policies,economy and other information.The problems faced by the translator in the translation process are discussed in the following aspects: Firstly,how to convey accurately the logical meaning and translate the attributives among verb predicate sentences? Secondly,how to define the subjects of verb-object predicate sentences? Thirdly,how to translate compound complex sentences according to the similarities and differences of their clause? Fourthly,how to transform iconic words of complex sentences of interpretation?Finally,as the patterns of the complex sentences of purpose look quite similar,how to convey the correct meaning of the original text and increase the richness of the translation?Considering the above questions and peculiarity of the political text,the translator,with the guidance of the principle of three closenesses,finds that the methods of preposition,postposition can be adopted for the translation of the attributes in verb predicate sentences.It is necessary to strike a balance between prepositive attributes and the postpositive attributes when their components are complicated.When translating the verb-object predicate sentences,the translator can flexibly use the objects or add subjects based on the context.The translator discusses translationmethods of compound complex sentences based on the similarities and differences by using literal translation,the method of segmentation and by adding phrases or other implicit logical semantic words.As for the translation of complex sentences of interpretation,the method of literal translation can be used.In addition,segmentation method can be exercised to translate a sentence into a text of “a topic sentence + a supporting sentence”.When translating a complex sentence of purpose,the translator can translate it into an adverbial clause of purpose or an infinitive with guide words.It can also be translated into the form of present participle to increase the richness of the translation and so on.
