Research On David Hockney’s Painting Language

David Hockney,one of the most influential and accomplished contemporary western artists,is not so much an artist as an explorer.Hockney constantly explores new forms of expression on the road of art.His biggest feature is that he is willing to change his ideas,even overthrow his position and make himself close to complete creative freedom.Hockney personally explores everything,the research and experiment of spatial reproduction,including its broader significance,and his attention to the meaning of reproduction.Through the analysis of Hockney’s paintings and combined with Hockney’s related works,this paper will study and discuss Hockney’s painting language from four parts,The first part summarizes the formation background of Hockney’s painting language.Taking time as the main line,it describes Hockney’s painting language in different stages,as well as the influence of important painting schools and famous painters in the same period on the formation of Hockney’s painting language;In the second part,through the study of Hockney’s easel paintings,we analyze the language of his easel paintings,transform the form into distinctive symbols,and combine the use of scattered perspective to make the works show the characteristics of flatness.In terms of composition,he uses lines to divide and reorganize space,and are good at using subjective bright and gorgeous colors;The third part discusses how Hockney discovered and used new media in painting from the aspects of theory and practice.Firstly,it expounds Hockney’s concept of new media,that is,it studies and finds the use of lens in the art works of Western classical painting masters.Secondly,it explains Hockney’s practical process of using new media to enrich painting language from four aspects:collage of photographic works,reproduction machine painting,electronic equipment painting and high-definition photography;The fourth part expounds the influence of Hockney’s paintings on contemporary painting from three aspects: the times of painting language,the diversity of painting media and the innovation of painting ideas.Hockney’s art works are not only numerous,but also involve a wide range of fields.In the new era of rapid development of science and technology,traditional painting has also accelerated the pace of innovation.Through the research and analysis of David Hockney’s painting language,this paper focuses on the creative attitude of modern painting and the value and significance of the continued existence of painting under the influence of today’s era of science and technology.
