Reading is the cornerstone for language learners to develop other language abilities and plays a vital role in students’ English learning.In the process of reading,students can develop their perception of English,enlarge their vocabulary and improve their writing level.The improvement of students’ reading ability is the key to develop their comprehensive ability,which is also the main and effective way to learn English.The traditional reading teaching method is rooted in the examination-oriented education that does not have diverse teaching strategies.It cannot observe the positive relationship between students’ thinking quality and reading ability.In order to accelerate the new curriculum reform,the main task of English teaching is to cultivate students’ thinking ability by adopting the effective teaching methods to solve the problems with English reading.Deep learning theory originated in the field of computing and was gradually integrated into basic education.At present,high school students fail to make impressive performance in English reading.When the learners read an unfamiliar article,the shallow learning becomes noticeable,which aims at memorization of the factual expression in the article.When the leaners are in the deep learning stage,they can understand the theme and academic connotation of the article,and critically analyze the existing knowledge and the content of the specific article.At last,they are able to figure out the logical meaning of the article connotation,and then connect the existing facts and conclusions.All in all,deep learning is a process in which the learner participates in active learning.This research aims to improve English reading teaching in high school and develop students’ reading skills,meanwhile shifting students from shallow reading to deep reading,and ultimately cultivate students’ reading literacy.This paper focuses on finding the current deep learning situation of high school students and the existing problems,and proposes relevant teaching strategies.Two classes of senior one in a key high school in Harbin was selected in the study to launch a 12-week experimental study.The two classes selected in the experiment have roughly the same scores in English reading.One is an experimental class and the other is a control class.The research adopts the methods of questionnaire survey,interview and test,and uses spss22.0 software to analyze the experimental data.The experimental results show that students generally recognize the English reading teaching mode under the guidance of deep learning strategies,which improves students’ reading ability,and stimulates their interest in reading.What’s more,it deepens students’ in-depth learning level.In the last part of the paper,a reflection on the research is made to point out the shortcomings and give suggestions for the follow-up related research.
