Deep learning is an active,inquisitive and comprehensible learning method,which focuses on cultivating learners’ higher-order thinking.It has attracted much attention on the education field at home and abroad.With the reform of basic education,the educational concepts of many primary and secondary school teachers have been continuously improved.However,many English reading teaching classes are still teacher-centered and focus on imparting language knowledge and skills,while ignoring the fact that the essence of education reform lies in helping students to develop active learning attitudes,cultivating students’ advanced thinking skills such as critical thinking and creative thinking,and promoting the development of students’ problem-solving and independent learning abilities.These characteristics highly conform to the nature of deep learning.Therefore,this study aims to explore how to effectively improve English reading teaching based on deep learning theory in order to promote students’ deep learning.The author designed the following questions:(1)What is the current situation of English reading teaching and learning in junior high school?(2)How to improve English reading teaching in junior high school based on deep learning?(3)Can the improved English reading teaching effectively promote students’ deep learning? If so,what are the impacts on their emotional attitude,cognitive level,learning strategy,learning outcome and academic performance?To achieve the purposes of the study,the author firstly adopted questionnaires,reading tests and classroom observations to understand the current situation of English reading teaching and learning in junior high school.Then,the author summarized the reasons that hinder deep learning and conducted experiments on reading teaching based on deep learning theory,the Bloom’s revised taxonomy and social constructivist theory.By analyzing and summarizing the data before and after the experiment,the author found that deep learning theory can effectively improve English reading teaching in junior high school and has a positive effect on students’ emotional attitude,cognitive level,learning strategy,learning outcome and academic performance.In particular,it enhanced students’ interest in reading,developed students’ awareness and ability of independent and cooperative learning,improved their higher-level thinking skills,and promoted students’ academic performance.In general,this study combed the research on deep learning and junior high school English reading teaching and confirmed from the practical level that deep learning theory has a positive effect on improving junior high school English reading teaching and promoting students’ deep learning.It is hoped that this study would provide theoretical and practical guidance for the improvement of students’ deep learning and English reading teaching in junior high school. |
