This is a report on the translation practice of the children’s literature from the perspective of Reception Aesthetics Theory,of which the source text is taken from the children’s literary work—The Tiny Hero of Ferny Creek Library,written by Linda Bailey,a renowned Canadian children’s writer.The book is about the library adventures of Eddie,a little green bug who loves to read.The excerpted parts,Chapters 1 to 6 tell about the challenges that Eddie experiences on his way to the library,the process of rescuing his aunt after arriving at the library,and the thrilling series of stories before he meets the substitute librarian.The text is rich in dialogues and action descriptions,and the plot is compact,vivid and imagery.Based on the study of the language and thinking patterns of the target readers—children,the translator should place children at the center of the process of translating a children’s literary work due to their limitations in terms of cognitive level,receptive ability and life experience.Reception Aesthetics Theory,with the reader as the core,believes that readers are not passive receivers but active creators,which is consistent with the requirement to pay attention to the status of children readers in children’s literature translation.In the major part of this report,based on Reception Aesthetics Theory,the translator discusses how to make the translation more acceptable to children on the basis of conveying basic information,increases its readability,satisfies their horizon of expectations,and raises their interest in reading these works.The translator mainly adopts paraphrasing,splitting,amplification,and annotation to deal with the special words,long sentences,missing information and proper nouns respectively in the text,so that the version can be more acceptable and understandable by target children,and uses interjections,onomatopoeia words,rhetoric devices,elongated words and repetitive sentence structures to make the translation attractive to the target readers. |
