A Report On The Translation Of The Princess And The Goblin(Excerpt) Under The Guidance Of The Reception Aesthetics Theory

This report is an E-C translation practice report about a children literature work.The original text is a classic work named the Princess and the Goblin by famous British writer MacDonald George,which tells the story of a little princess who went to the attic to adventure and thus discovered her grandmother,then she defeated goblins with the help of her grandmother and her friend Curdie.In this report,the author of this report takes children readers as the center and considers the correspondence between the translation and children readers’ horizon of expectation from the three aspects of lexical,syntactic and rhetoric.The original is interesting in content and lively in language.In order to keep the style of it as much as possible and make children readers feel friendly and interested in reading,the author of this report used colloquial expressions that are acceptable to children and reduplicative and onomatopoeic words in translation.In addition,in order to help and improve the vocabulary of children readers,some four-character words with moderate difficulty were also selected in translation.Five parts are included in this report.The first part introduces the content,author,and translation significance of the original work.In the second part,the author of the report introduces the translation process of this translation,including pre-translation,while translation,and proofreading.The third chapter is literature review.The fourth part of this report is case analysis.In this part,the author of this report selected some typical examples to analyze,and elaborated on the difficulties,solutions,and reasons in translation.The last part is conclusion.In translation,the translator is also a reader for the original work,having one’s own horizon of expectation and language style,and the translation quality certainly has much space to be improved.Therefore,the author of this report made a careful conclusion and reflection on this translation practice in order to improve the handling of similar texts in the future.
