The source text for this translation practice is the first chapter of Bioceramics for Materials Science and Engineering written by Saad B.H.Farid,a professor of materials engineering. The content of this chapter mainly includes bioceramics, structure, microstructure and properties of bioceramics. This text is a typical scientific and technical text with distinctive language characteristics: it contains a large number of professional terms, the wording in this text is rigorous and clear with simple writing style, and the overall logic is strict. In the translation process, the translator comprehensively took advantage of CNKI Translation Assistant,Google Translate,Terminology Online,Tmxmall,Wikipedia and other resources to ensure the reliability of the translation as much as possible and improve the quality of the translation. This translation practice was completed under the guidance of Skopos Theory. The “Skopos Rule” requires the translator to act in the contextual culture of the target language in the manner expected by the target language readers, and the “Fidelity rule”requires that there should be interlingual coherence between the original text and the target text,“Coherence Rule” requires the translation to be readable and acceptable, enabling the recipients to understand and make sense in the culture of the target language and the communicative context in which the translation is used.As a kind of informational text, the scientific and technical text covers professional content to meet the transmission of information which contains a great many long and complex sentences.Translators need to apply different translation strategies and techniques flexibly when translating such text to make the translation accurate and smooth, while Skopos Theory emphasizes that the purpose of translation determines translation strategies and methods. Therefore,Skopos Theory has guiding significance for the translation of scientific and technological text.Case analyses in the report are classified into three categories, namely lexical level, syntactic level and discourse level. The translator applied Skopos Theory to analyze quantities of examples in the translation process combined with the characteristics of the text, and explored how to make the target language more readable and meet the expectations of readers in the target language,so as to offer the strategies and techniques for the translation of scientific and technological text of biological materials. This practice report is divided into five parts. The first chapter gives a general overview of the translation task: background of the translation practice, introduction to the original text, and the significance of the translation practice. The second chapter is a comprehensive description of the entire translation process, including the analysis of the original text, translation preparation, translation process and translation revision. The third chapter comes to an overview of Skopos Theory and the translation of scientific and technical text under the guidance of this theory. The fourth chapter elaborates on the case analysis, including analysis at the lexical level, syntactic level, and discourse level.Chapter Five is a summary of this translation practice.
