A Practice Report On Translation Of Scientific And Technical Text From The Perspective Of Text Typology Theory

With the world energy crisis and environmental protection problems becoming increasingly prominent,the traditional automobile industry is facing severe challenges,which makes new energy vehicles become the research focus of the world’s major automobile manufacturers and R & D institutions.Among them,fuel cell vehicles(FCV)is generally considered to have broad developing prospects due to its high efficiency and near zero emission.In recent years,China’s investment in fuel cell is also increasing.It is an indisputable fact that fuel cell vehicles will play an important role in new energy vehicles.As the guiding document of fuel cell research in the industry,the translation is of great academic and economic value.The original text is Current Status and Trends of the Research and Development for Fuel Cell Vehicles,which is a literature review on the development of fuel cell vehicles at home and abroad.Based on Reiss’ s text type theory,the author elaborates and discusses the characteristics of scientific and technical texts like literature review and the corresponding translation strategies during the process of Chinese-to-English translation.After analyzing the original text carefully,the author draws the conclusion that the sentence structure of the text can be summarized as: long sentences,non-subject sentences and compound sentences.According to the characteristics,different translation strategies are adopted.In this paper,the author adopts various strategies to complete the translation task: using linear translation and division to translate the long sentences;using amplification and conversion to solve the non-subject sentences;and using conjunctions and the combined translation strategy to complete the compound sentences.Through this translation practice,the author hopes to deeply understand the applicability of Reiss’ s text type theory,to accurately convey scientific and technical information about fuel cell vehicles,and to better link up theory with practice,so as to provide some ideas and inspiration for later researchers.
