English homework is an important part of English teaching.It is also an effective supplement of classroom learning.Scientific and effective English homework is not only conducive to helping students master the basic knowledge and basic ability of English language,but also helpful to facilitate the development of students’ comprehensive language ability.Howard Gardner,a famous American psychologist,puts forward the Multiple Intelligence theory(MI theory)based on a critique of traditional intelligence.MI theory advocates that a person’ s intelligence is multiple,which emphasizes that everyone has a complete intelligence spectrum and has at least eight intelligences,namely,Linguistic Intelligence,Intrapersonal Intelligence,Bodily-kinesthetic Intelligence,Logical-mathematical Intelligence,Musical Intelligence,Interpersonal Intelligence,Naturalist Intelligence and Visual-spatial Intelligence.The traditional view of intelligence,which limits intelligence to Logical-mathematical Intelligence and Linguistic Intelligence,is outdated.This research designs diversified homework based on the MI theory to give full play to students’ eight intelligences,so as to promote their comprehensive development,stimulate their interests in English learning,and improve their English academic achievements.The experimental subjects are two key classes students of grade two in a senior high school in Chongqing,while five English teachers in that school are chosen as interview subjects.A semester-long research on senior high school English homework design and implementation based on MI theory is conducted.Combined relevant literature,the research is carried out by the mixed method,including qualitative method and quantitative method that includes questionnaire method,experiment method,and interview method.The author uses questionnaire method and interview method to analyze the current situation of senior high school English homework and find out the main problems in English homework design;The author uses the Multiple Intelligences Test questionnaire to survey the distribution of students’ intelligence in the experimental class and control class,and designs the senior high school English homework to the students in the experimental class according to the eight intelligences conditions,as well as showing some samples of homework design based on eight intelligences.The control class is assigned traditional homework.Finally,the effectiveness of this research is confirmed by analyzing the relevant data.The results of the research indicate that there are some problems in the English homework design in senior high school,such as the simple purpose and monotonous form of homework,the limited content of homework,English teachers’ over-reliance on supplementary materials.The experimental results show that the pretest and post-test have significant differences,which indicates that the English homework based on MI theory can enhance students’ learning interests and improve students’ academic achievements.English homework based on MI theory changes students’ evaluation of homework,stimulates students’ interests in English learning,improves their English learning ability and facilitates the comprehensive development of students.
