| This report is based on the translation of the first and second chapter of Human Nature and the Limits of Science. The book belongs to the text of philosophy of science, written by Professor John Dupré of Exeter University. In the book, the author explains the suspicion of trying to analyze human nature with a single discipline and one-sided view, and focuses on evolutionary psychology. The difficulty of this translation is due to the lack of professional background knowledge. This report is written under the guidance of Nord’s text analysis model.According to the model, the author analyzes the translation materials from extratextual factors and intratextual factors, especially from subject matter, content, lexis and sentence structure of intratextual factors, deeply analyzes the influence of these factors on translation, and focuses on the corresponding translation methods from the perspective of vocabulary and sentence. This report contains five parts. The first part is the task description, which briefly introduces the book translated this time, the subjects involved in the book, and the gains that the translation brings to the author;the second part is the task process, which describes the tasks to be completed in the three stages of pre-translation,mid-translation and post-translation;the third part is the theoretical background, which introduces Nord’s text analysis model and its application in practice;the fourth part is the case analysis, which is the main part of the report.Typical problems encountered in the process of translation are selected as cases, and the translation methods used are analyzed.Questions are discussed from the perspective of vocabulary and sentence structure. In terms of vocabulary,it deals with the terminological vocabulary and common vocabulary respectively. We adopt the network research method for the translation of terminological vocabulary, the context-based translation and conversion of part of speech for the common vocabulary;as for the translation of sentences we adopt the method of transposition translation and sentence-splitting translation. The fifth part is the summary, which summarizes the task and reflects on the shortcomings. |
