With the continuous development in economy and Internet technology, more and more Chinese universities have begun to build their own English websites. As a window to the world, the appropriate translation of Chinese universities English websites can help foreign students and scholars know more about the universities and even the education in China. However, it is surprising to find that some language problems exist in the C-E translation of Chinese universities even among the top 50 due to lack of understanding about differences between the Chinese culture and foreign cultures. All these translation errors without adequate consideration of the target readers’ acceptance will seriously hinder international communication and publicity of Chinese universities.In this thesis, the author selects the top 100 universities from The US News and World Report in 2014 and the top 50 universities with comprehensive strength as the study cases. Under the guidance of Nord’s text analysis model, the author analyzes the C-E translation at extratextual and intratextual levels and finds some problems in Chinese universities website profiles C-E translation. Then the author provides some translation strategies and methods from a target-reader-oriented perspective.The author hopes the thesis will make some contribution to C-E translation of Chinese universities website profiles and provide references for translators who are interested in this study field in the future.
