A Study Of Strategies In Conference Interpretation From The Interpretive Theory Perspective

As the first systematic and scientific interpretation theory in the international interpretation field,the Interpretive Theory not only makes an outstanding contribution to the training of interpreters,but also has a great bearing on interpretation research,practice and teaching in China.The domestic research about the Interpretive Theory mainly analyzes the interpretation strategies throughout the analysis of the hypothesis of“deverbalization”and the Triangular Model.Under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory,this thesis selects the C-E simultaneous interpretation of President Xi Jinping’s speech at the high-level meeting to commemorate the 75^thanniversary of the United Nations and President Xi Jinping’s speech at the national COVID-19 response honors and awards conference as the data.Taking the Triangular Model of the Interpretive Theory as the theoretical support,the research analyzes the interpretation strategies used by interpreters to deal with problems in the process of interpretation and hopes that interpreters can avoid or reduce corresponding errors in C-E simultaneous interpretation in the future.This thesis explores interpretation strategies through literature analysis and case study.The research first intends to understand the core points and characteristics of the Interpretive Theory by consulting relevant literature of the Interpretive Theory.Secondly,the thesis sums up the corresponding interpretation strategies in comprehension,deverbalization and re-expression through the analysis of typical examples.The findings are as follows:（1）If interpreters fail to make clear the sense of the original language,the interpretation tends to cause wrong information output.（2）Owing to the difference between Chinese and English,interpreters make oral mistakes or pause for a while in the interpreting process.In consequence,the study concludes that:（1）Interpreters can use strategies in comprehension to figure out the sense of the source context and convey the sense to the audience precisely.（2）Interpreters need to master the characteristics of Chinese and English sentences and appropriately adapt strategies in deverbalization and re-expression to reduce oral mistakes and long time lag.
