| In recent years,with the continuous deepening of regional cooperation,the communication,consultation and cooperation between China and the Caribbean have become increasingly close.Therefore,it is necessary to study the history of the Caribbean.This translation report is based on Chapter eight of General History of the Caribbean Volume V-Political processes in the Caribbean,1970 s to 2000.This chapter deals with the colonial legacy of the Caribbean,the mass movement after 1968,the political processes of different countries,and the challenges facing the region.Under the guidance of Newmark’s text typology theory,this report analyzes how to use appropriate translation strategies to achieve the accurate conversion of source text.Newmark’s text typology theory divides texts into three types according to its language functions,and proposes two translation methods of semantic translation and communicative translation.The source text of this report is an informative text,so the author combines semantic translation and communicative translation methods to carry out her translation.According to the lexical,syntactic and textual characteristics of the source text,the author adopts such translation methods as parts of speech conversion,semantic extension,the change of voice and adjustment for word order to make the translation expressive and readable.The author hopes that the experience and reflection of this translation project can provide a reference for the translation of similar texts. |
