A Practice Report On Chinese-English Two-Way Consecutive Interpreting For 2020 Portugal Tourism China Online Roadshow Guided By Coherence Rule

This thesis is a practice report based on the author’s interpreting practice in 2020 Portugal Tourism China Online Roadshow where the author worked as a consecutive interpreter.The author analyzes her interpreting practice under the guidance of coherence rule of the Skopos theory.Coherence is a significant principle and indicator to measure interpreting performance.In interpreting,interpreters are committed to achieving lexical,syntactic and cultural coherence to improve interpreting performance.Lexical coherence requires to flexibly take advantage of diversity of vocabulary.Syntactic coherence requires to use cohesive devices.Cultural coherence requires to master and use cultural knowledge of source language to make target audience understand the meaning.Based on her interpreting practice in 2020 Portugal Tourism China Online Roadshow,the author adopts strategy of amplification,conversion and paraphrasing by flexibly utilizing vocabulary,sentence structure and cultural knowledge in interpreting process to realize the overall coherence or to justify the guidance role of coherence rule of skopos theory.The analysis focuses on three adopted strategies from three perspectives including vocabulary,syntax and culture under the guidance of coherence rule.It concludes that under the guidance of coherence rule,it is possible to reach overall coherence in interpreting practice by adopting strategy of amplification,conversion and paraphrasing from three aspects including vocabulary,syntax and culture,which is in line with the coherence rule of skopos theory.
